Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Senior Nursing Attendant - Med Surg Telemetry, Part-time, Evenings. In this role, the successful candidate Assists in implementation of the nursing process by performing direct and indirect patient care to assigned patients under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse Assists in maintaining an orderly and safe patient care environment and unit

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists withAdmission/Transfer/Discharge of patients:Orients patient to hospital environment. Provides patient with toileting supplies. Assists patient to remove clothes, complete property check list and safeguard personal property through Security.Assists in transfer of patients by gatheringbelongings, completionof clothinglist and assisting inmoving the patient.Prepares bedside unit to receive patients. Discharges:Assists patient to dress andpackpersonalbelongings.Escortspatientasnecessaryandremainswiththepatientuntilhe/shehasleftthe building.
  • Conductspatientroundsfortoileting,positioning,comfort,safetyandpersonalneeds.Answers patientcalllights and responds to patient needs promptly.
  • AssembleO2(e.g.,nasalcannula)andsuctionset-ups.
  • Providesbasichygienetopatients:bathing,AM/PMcare,mouthcare,denturecare,haircare,nailandfoot care, shaving, assists patients with bedpan, urinal and/or commode.
  • Prepares patients formealsincluding:Clearingoverbedtables andplacingthemwithinreachofthepatient. Positioningpatientcorrectlyforeating/tubefeedings.Assistingpatientsbypreparingutensilsandfooditems. Feeding patients.
  • Performs and/orassistpatientwithsimpletreatments.RemoveandreapplySCDwrapsasdirectedby the RN. Assists RN in enema procedures.
  • Collectsspecimensasdirectedby RN.
  • InformsRNofany audibleclinicalalarms suchasIVpumps,feedingpumps,ventilators,bedsidemonitors
  • Assistswithmoving,lifting,positioningandtransportingof patients.
  • Assistswithremovalandsecurity ofpatientpersonalitemspriortoprocedures,asneeded
  • Changeslineninaccordancewithpolicyandasnecessary.
  • Takesandelectronicallyrecordsbloodpressure,temperature,pulse,pulseoximetry,andrespiration,percare level standard and as directed by the RN. Reports any abnormalities to RN.
  • Weighspatientsandelectronically records onadmissionasordered,andasdirectedbyRN.
  • Measuresandrecordsoralintake,urinaryoutput,bowelelimination,gastricandotherdrainageontoI&Orecord (form or electronic). Calculates 8 hour totals. Empties drainage bags.
  • Performspostmortemcare.
  • Performssafetyobservationsforpatientsoncontinuousobservationorinrestraints,perpolicyandas directed.
  • ReportsanychangesobservedinthepatientsconditiontotheRN.
  • Respondstoandmeetspatient/familyneedsandcustomerconcernsassoonaspossiblewithcompassionand understanding. Establishedeffective,caringrelationships with staff, patients, family and othermembers of the healthcare team
  • Maintainscompetencethroughin-serviceandeducationalprograms.
  • Attendsstaffmeetingsandreviews/signsminutesofmeetingsnotattended.Maintains a safe and uncluttered environment of care in patient rooms including removing excessive furniture, suppliesandequipment.Assistswithsupplyandequipmentmanagementofpatient,procedureandsupplyrooms per department standards.
  • Maintainscleanlinessofutilityroomsandpantriesasassigned.
  • Performsotherdutiessuchaserrands,relievingotherunits,bringingstretchersandassistingothermembersof the health team, as directed.
  • Discussespersonalorunit-basededucationalgoals/planswiththeNurseManagerand/orNursingProfessional Development Specialist, as appropriate.
  • Demonstratesaccountabilityforsupplies,equipment,andenvironmentalsupport.
  • Assistsinthecollectionofdatafortheunits QualityandPerformanceImprovementProgramthatincludes patient satisfaction and other measures.
  • ProvideinstructionanddemonstratedesiredskillsbeforeNAsareexpectedtoundertakenewtaskswithintheir scope.
  • SharefeedbacktobothnewandcurrentNAs asitrelatestoareas wherethereareopportunitiesfor development.
  • Performsotherduties asalignedwiththemissionandvalues ofthe organization

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or equivalent Required Graduate of Certified Nursing Attendant Program certified as a CNA and at least 6 months relevant experience BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification Issued by the American Heart Association AHA is required upon entry to the position Competencies: Working knowledge of English is evident in verbal reading and writing abilities; other language an asset; Strong customer service and communication skills. Required Licenses: Basic Life Support Cert

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $25.50 - $26.60 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
