Job Title: Sr. Gearing Manufacturing Engineer

Overview

Actalent is seeking an experienced Sr. Gearing Manufacturing Engineer to join a dynamic team in Milwaukee, WI in a direct placement role. This role primarily supports the shovel line of business and offers an exciting opportunity to work on innovative and challenging projects in gear manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Assistance: Provide technical assistance in gear manufacturing and gear inspection, ensuring adherence to all quality standards for gears and splines.

  • Design: Design hobs, cutters, and grinding wheels, utilizing UTS Gear Engineering software for calculations, creating DXF files, designing long lead tooling, and plotting gear teeth.

  • Setup Sheets: Use solid models to create setup sheets, and analyze engineering drawings, solid models, sketches, and quality standards to determine program requirements.

  • Manufacturing Methods: Develop new and improved manufacturing methods (DFMA), and create and maintain NC programs for gear hobbers, gear shapers, gear grinders, and gear inspection machine tools.

  • Process Sheets: Create and maintain all cutting parameters on process sheets used to machine a gear, and maintain a catalogue of gear hobs, cutters, and grinding wheels, establishing sourcing of the tooling.

  • Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements, carry out improvement actions, and evaluate equipment and processes to ensure capability of meeting part requirements.

  • Cost Reduction: Lead projects to upgrade, replace, and procure new equipment, prepare appropriation requests for capital projects, and identify opportunities to reduce cost, improve productivity, safety, quality, velocity, OTD, etc.

  • Tool Requisitions: Requisition all gear cutting tools, identify product design drawing errors and improvement opportunities, and facilitate changes through the RFPD system and other means.

  • Operational Support: Assist with routing operation sequence, PFMEA’s, and cost estimates, develop and maintain setup sheets using Solid Works for numerically controlled machines.

  • Machine Configuration: Establish machine speeds and feed rates and configuration of cuts using vendor software unique to each machine tool.

  • Employee Training: Write manufacturing operating procedures and instruct hourly employees, participate in pre-production product design reviews, and engineering efforts to ensure manufacturability of new product design.

  • Technical Support: Perform reverse engineering of gearing, provide technical support for reworking gearing, support maintenance by providing instructions for inspecting machine geometry, and write preventative maintenance plans.

  • Equipment Management: Provide technical support for rebuild, upgrade, and enhancement of existing equipment, replacement of worn-out equipment, and procurement of new equipment to support the manufacture of P&H products.

  • Vendor Evaluation: Evaluate vendor proposals, make recommendations, write CEAs, perform acceptance tests, and manage new machine tool requisitions.

Essential Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial) preferred.

  • Will consider Associate’s degree or equivalent from a Technical College and Journeyman’s status

  • OR 10 years of experience in the machine trades.

  • A minimum of 10-15 years of gear manufacturing experience required.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook), UTS Software, and CAD Design software.

  • Extensive experience with gearing and having worked at a manufacturer that specializes in gearing.

  • Proficiency in programming.

  • Strong mathematical skills, specifically in trigonometry.

Work Environment

This is an onsite position.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $91000.00 - $135000.00

Offering full company benefits. Health, Dental, Vision, 401K, vacation, etc. Company shutdown between Christmas and New Years.
