The Apprentice Plant Operator, under supervision, will work with and assist other plant operators while receiving increasing instruction and experience in the operation and maintenance of the steam and chiller plants. They will provide entry-level support in both areas of operations and maintenance. The individual will learn, assist, and be mentored on performing operator rounds, troubleshooting, preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on plant systems and equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations. Minimum requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent. Entry Level-Experience in skilled trades such as power plant operation, HVAC, or mechanical maintenance. The ability to extract, comprehend, and develop instructions from technical manuals and drawings, technical literature, and other job-related material; and to effectively communicate orally and in writing using the English language. A strong ability to work in a team environment. Physically able to climb over and around equipment, lift materials up to 50 pounds, and work with standard tools and equipment. Capable of working rotating shifts. Preferred Requirements: Completion of a Power Engineering and Boiler Operator or HVAC technical training program. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Learn various areas of steam and chiller plant operation and maintenance, including, but not limited to: boilers, chillers, and related equipment; plant control and instrumentation systems; water treatment chemistry; identifying and reporting abnormal conditions; and taking appropriate corrective action. 2. Work with and assist operators of a higher grade with their duties and responsibilities. 3. Under general supervision, perform tasks that the Apprentice has completed and signed off in the Apprentice Qualification Program, including but not limited to: Perform rounds and maintain up-to-date logs. Perform water treatment analysis. Perform system lubrications. Perform inspections and PMs and document items found but not repaired on a Work Order.
