Job Description: Mechanical Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Sr. Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role involves designing cost-effective components, equipment, and systems, as well as providing technical support and mentoring less experienced engineers. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical experience, excellent design experience, and the ability to work on existing machines, rebuilds, and upgrades.

Responsibilities

  • Design or redesign cost-effective components, equipment, and systems using engineering standards and computer-aided design, applying Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.

  • Prepare engineering drawings for components, assemblies, and plant layouts, and review drawings prepared by less experienced team members.

  • Process engineering change orders/requests and ensure completion by assigned due dates.

  • Prepare bills of materials and process routings in the MRP/ERP system.

  • Analyze and approve designs of suppliers or subcontractors, ensuring products/services meet specification requirements.

  • Evaluate commercially available components for suitability in equipment.

  • Review and disposition component non-conformances.

  • Provide technical support to other departments and customers.

  • Support company products throughout their life cycles.

  • Mentor and train less experienced engineering team members.

  • Prepare and update standards and procedures.

  • Manage job projects/orders from receipt to shipment, including preparing Gantt charts.

  • Stay current on codes and requirements; participate in educational opportunities, read professional publications, and maintain personal networks.

  • Ensure consistency and integrity of all major equipment in accordance with codes and specifications.

  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with codes and legal regulations.

  • Occasionally travel (<10%) to supplier facilities and customers as needed.

Essential Skills

  • 10-15 years of experience in mechanical engineering.

  • Strong mechanical experience, with knowledge of how components fit together, especially rotating parts like shafts and bearings.

  • Experience with Inventor, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks.

  • Mechanical design experience focused on existing machines, rebuilds, and upgrades.

  • Ability to manage projects and prepare Gantt charts.

  • Experience in preparing engineering drawings and bills of materials.

  • Proficiency in processing engineering change orders and evaluating component non-conformances.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in the food and processing industry is preferred but not required.

  • Experience with high volume of drawing conversions to 3-D.

  • Electro-mechanical knowledge is a plus, but a strong mechanical focus is necessary.

  • Ability to mentor and train less experienced engineers.

  • Interest in hands-on work, such as assembly and disassembly of machines.

  • Comfortable with managing job projects/orders from receipt to shipment.
