THE ABILITY CENTER Adaptive Sports Coordinator Lead in MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Key Responsibilities: 1. Program Management and Coordination Lead and coordinate the Adaptive Scholastic Athletic Program (ASAP), Open Gym, RampUp, and 3v3 Wheelchair Basketball programs. Manage relationships with schools, community organizations, and partner agencies to identify and secure new programming opportunities. Plan, schedule, and oversee the execution of events, ensuring smooth operations before, during, and after each event. 2. Event Facilitation Organize and lead adaptive games and activities for both kids and adults during events. Ensure timely setup and teardown of equipment at all events. Be present at events to check in participants, manage waivers, and create an inclusive, welcoming environment for all attendees. 3. Community Outreach and Growth Expand program reach by networking and recruiting participants from physical therapy offices, rehabilitation centers, veteran groups, and other relevant organizations. Drive program growth by increasing participation and enhancing program offerings. 4. 3v3 Wheelchair Basketball Coordination Recruit and manage 12-16 teams per season, ensuring all required paperwork is completed. Set schedules, manage game results, and maintain consistent communication with teams. Oversee league operations to ensure a balanced and competitive experience for all participants. 5. Wisconsin Thunder Support: Assist the Executive Director with the management of the Wisconsin Thunder wheelchair basketball program. Responsibilities include scheduling tournaments, managing registrations, assisting in athlete development, and supporting team practices and travel arrangements. 6. General Responsibilities o Attend community outreach events monthly to promote programs. o Manage and maintain inventory and storage of adaptive sports equipment, ensuring all necessary items are available for programming needs. o Maintain storage facilities, including snow removal and other upkeep tasks as required. 7. Other duties: o Responds to evolving organizational needs by taking on additional duties as needed from all departments. o Assist with tasks and projects from other departments as needed, contributing to the overall success of The Ability Center. Qualifications: Associate or bachelor\'s degree or related experience. Knowledge and experience with Adaptive Recreation and Fitness is a plus. Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in program development, management and execution. Minimum of 2 years of experience working or volunteering with a diverse population of adults and children, in a nonprofit setting. Willing to work a flexible schedule of morning, afternoon, and occasional evening and weekend hours. Proficient use and understanding of Google: Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides The type of person that will really succeed in this role will have: Passion, empathy, and openness to people with disabilities. Tremendous organizational skills and attention to detail. The ability to work independently, reliably, and often with little supervision. Great communication and interpersonal skills: both verbal and written. The Ideal Candidate is either a Physical Education Teacher with an Adaptive Specialty or Certification or an energetic and enthusiastic Rec Therapist with a focus in, or experience with, adaptive sports.
