Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position spends more than 50% of the time engaged in supervisory responsibilities. This includes communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees in addition to planning and directing employees’ work. The incumbent has the authority to hire, transfer, suspend, lay off, recall, promote, discharge, assign, reward, or discipline subordinate employees or effectively recommend such action. The incumbent will also be required to develop performance expectations, meet with staff regularly to discuss performance, complete performance reviews, maintain vacation and work schedules, ensuring proper coverage, and complete timesheets.

Supports the WIC Nutrition Department - Communicates effectively, collaboratively, with a clear vision for Public Health (PH) Nutrition and a strategic plan in line with SRCHD and Florida Department of Health (FDOH) and national PH Nutrition goals/objectives the core functions of public health, Ten Essential Public Health Services and Healthy People 2030. Assures that critical PH and PH responses and preventions occur timely for PH threats. Monitors, coordinates, and optimizes PH Nutrition activities, processes, resource utilization, goals, customers, and outcomes. Assesses community PH needs, to inform PH Nutrition activities. Provides leadership for PH Nutrition QI activities and acts to improve practices where indicated.

PH Nutrition Grant Management – Assures programmatic and budgetary compliance with grant requirements, and timely and accurate development of required activities, reports and responses.

PH Nutrition Guidance - Acts as PH Nutrition advocate with other SRCHD departments and DOH program offices, providing timely and accurate responses and reports as required. Attends statewide and regional PH Nutrition related meetings and workgroups. Represents the SRCHD on community committees and advisory boards related to PH Nutrition and SRCHD strategic objectives. Assures successful investigation and resolution of complaints regarding PH Nutrition services/programs. Assists in development/implementation of positive public relations activities and materials, including customer satisfaction surveys. Develops community capacity in PH Nutrition by working with schools, universities, and others. Coordinates outreach activities for WIC department.

This position is a highly responsible public health nutrition supervisory level position reporting directly to the PUBLIC HEALTH SERVICES MANAGER. The incumbent represents the agency along with its mission and values. The incumbent is part of the global public health organization and is expected to promote cooperation, courtesy, respect, and teamwork in a diverse environment. The incumbent in this position is directly responsible for supervision and coordination of nutrition education for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) in compliance with Federal Regulations. The incumbent will collaborate with WIC staff to ensure reliable and current nutrition education and the promotion, protection, and support of breastfeeding.

The incumbent will provide direct services to clients, which include providing nutrition assessments and counseling to WIC participants, determining nutrition risk/eligibility criteria for program applicants, and preparing high-risk care plans as needed. The incumbent is responsible for the supervision of staff including appraisals, planning, and directing their work, approving leave, having the authority for hiring, and taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending such actions. Assists in developing, updating, implementing and monitoring the policies and procedure of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC Program) for the Florida Department of Health in Santa Rosa County ensuring compliance with Federal regulations, state and local policies and procedures as described within the WIC Procedure Manual DHM 150-24, WIC Data System User Guide, WIC Data System Manager Guide, WIC CPA (Competent Professional Authority) Guidebook, Formula Reference Guide and Formulary.

Incumbent will be involved in the overall WIC Program coordination and providing direct client services by delivering quality nutrition education and support to the WIC participants. Incumbent will promote and participate in community outreach events and/or presentations as outlined on annual performance expectations.

This consists of work carrying out local WIC agency quality improvement responsibilities at all sites including but not limited to the following:

  • Monitor local sites for compliance with inventories.

  • Complete nutritionist record reviews.

  • Assure completion of customer satisfaction surveys.

  • Compile indicator scorecard information for supervisors, meeting with staff, and providing technical assistance.

  • Train new staff and serving as mentor to new hires.

  • Provide consistent one-on-one mentorship to assigned staff.

  • Coordinate and developing QI reviews in clinics, tracking the results, and providing technical assistance.

  • Recommend changes in procedures as appropriate based on QI findings.

  • Serve on health department quality teams and/or committees, if applicable.

  • Assist with required monthly reports for State WIC Office.

  • Provide assistance assessing, planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating local agency needs, policies, procedures, and expansion activities of the WIC Program at all locations.

  • Ability to use WIC Program related software and provide proof of successful completion of the FL-WiSE competency test, or new hires be able to pass this test within 60 days following date of hire.     Qualifications:

    Minimum

  • Dietitian/Nutritionist in accordance with Chapter 468, Florida Statutes, or be eligible to practice dietetics in accordance with Chapter 21M, Section 48.001, 48.002, 48.003, Florida Administrative Code.

  • Must be a licensed dietitian/nutritionist in the state of Florida.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics or Food & Nutrition related subject required.

  • Must have a valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
