Position Details

Wesleyan University has approximately 3,000 undergraduate and 140 graduate students. The Health Services department consists of three cross functional offices (Health Center, CAPS and WesWell) that coordinate and collaborate to create a campus committed to wellness.

Reporting to the Director of the Davison Health Center, the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist position will provide nutrition appointments and consultations, as well as partner with the Eating Concerns Care Team ( ECCT ) to coordinate treatment for students with disordered eating. The Dietician/Nutritionist position will also occasionally partner with the Athletics Department to support our student athletes through education sessions, trainings, and sports nutrition consultations.

  • Develop and implement programs designed to improve the diet and nutrition of students and the campus community through changes in dietary practices.

  • Develop and provide educational and consultative services to students in nutrition, diet, weight management, and food choices and preparation.

  • Facilitate workshops, seminars and/or individual counseling sessions on food, diet, weight management and nutritional care.

  • Conduct training sessions and demonstrations on the technical and practical aspects of food and nutrition as requested.

  • Work to modify poor nutrition practices by educating and counseling students.

  • Consult with student health center and university staff on food and nutrition concerns and the nutritional care for specific medical conditions, diseases or disorders.

  • Participate in multi-disciplinary team to address nutritional needs ( EECT ).

  • Keep current with developments in nutrition and diet applicable to the population served in the student health center and general campus community.

  • Coordinate nutrition programs with others promoting health and wellness in the campus community.

This is a hybrid position with a schedule of 4 hours per week, 28 weeks per year.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or equivalent in a program approved and accredited by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a minimum of 2 years’ experience providing client facing services or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Must possess and maintain certification as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist as defined by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Adoption and practice of the Health at Every Size ( HAES ) principles and framework including weight inclusivity, health enhancement, eating for well-being, respectful care and life-enhancing movement.

Thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to the field including those regarding patient confidentiality.

Working knowledge of nutritional care for specific medical conditions.

General knowledge of principles, methods, materials and channels of nutrition education and public information

Effective communication skills

Ability to assess needs and evaluate the effectiveness of diet and nutrition programs and materials.

Ability to keep current with developments in healthcare related to nutrition.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other health services staff.

Demonstrated commitment to working within a diverse environment and interacting collegially with individuals of different backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in nutrition or health related field ( MPH , MSN , etc.)

A minimum of two year’s experience with college aged populations, disordered eating and performance nutrition.

Demonstrated experience in facilitating group workshops and outreach focused on nutrition.

CEDRD Certification (Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian)
