Job Description

Job Title: Instructor

Department: Job Corps

Reports To: National Project Coordinator/ Field Coordinator

FLSA Status: Bargaining Unit FLSA Exempt

SUMMARY

The responsibilities of the Instructor are to carry out the day-to-day operation of the training program at the Job Corps Center, both on-the-job training and related classroom instruction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruiting students for the program in order to maintain a full "crew."

  • Participating in the development of the Career Technical Skills Training package.

  • Planning, organizing, and coordinating work projects and related classroom instruction.

  • Instructing students both on the job and in the classroom.

  • Training and Assist in placing students in jobs in the finishing trades industry.

  • Maintaining proper inventory of supplies, materials, and equipment.

  • Preparing reports and maintaining records required by the union and the government.

  • Maintaining a safe and secure shop and work site.

  • Counseling students, including disciplinary action, as needed.

  • Maintaining liaison with other Center personnel to monitor progress of students.

  • Maintaining good Center relations and participating in Center activities that contributes to the goals of the program.

  • Creating and maintaining an environment that is free of intimidation, including sexual harassment.

  • Identify and assist in placing graduates in career employment opportunities.

  • Deliver trade-related curricula and teaching materials in the classroom.

  • Keep current with latest developments affecting the finishing trades industry.

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Successfully completed a registered apprenticeship program associated with the craft subject area

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma/GED. Completed a registered apprenticeship program associated with the craft subject area. Qualified Journey-worker status. Foreman/supervisory/apprenticeship experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Driver's License and current Safety and Industry certifications/credentials in the craft subject area
