The University of Miami Health System, "UHealth", Department of Pediatrics- Debbie School has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Teacher.

The Senior Teacher plans, organizes, and implements an appropriate instructional curriculum for students with and without disabilities, in an inclusive learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. More specifically, the incumbent plans, prepares, and delivers instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develops comprehensive lesson plans and developmentally appropriate activities.

  • Identifies and selects different instructional resources to meet students’ varying educational needs.

  • Provides a syllabus of course material before the start of the course when applicable.

  • Records daily attendance.

  • May administer tests, evaluations, and/or assessments to monitor progress of individual students.

  • May provide homework assignments on course materials to evaluate course knowledge.

  • Updates all necessary records as required by applicable laws, district policies, and school regulations.

  • Works directly with teacher assistant(s) on the application of an appropriate instructional curriculum.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions:

  • Implements evaluation, assessment, and education program plans for classroom students.

  • Incorporates principals from program curriculums into the educational programs.

  • Completes daily, weekly, and monthly curriculum plans.

  • Acts as a program liaison with parents on all educational matters for classroom students.

  • Maintains records for Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) and/or Individual Education Plan (IEP), attendance, quarterly reports, annual reports, and weekly lesson plans.

  • Develops annual goals and benchmarks based on each child’s priority educational needs.

  • Conducts functional supervision, evaluation, and training of classroom assistants.

  • Trains and supervises interns, student trainees, and volunteers assigned to classroom.

  • Communicates plans to assistants, parents, and supervisors.

  • Communicates substitute needs and assist in planning for coverage of self and assistants when absent.

  • Maintains adequate educational materials, instructional, and technical supplies.

  • Maintains custody and care of assigned classroom equipment and materials.

  • Maintains a safe and appropriate learning environment.

  • Monitors activities to maintain compliance with the Children Medical Services Early Steps North and Southernmost Coast, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, The Children’s Trust, and Department of Children and Families Childcare Program Standards when appropriate.

  • Attends in-services and trainings required by the Early Steps Programs, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, The Children’s Trust, and APPLE Accreditation.

  • Participates in applied research and curricula task force programs as requested.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education of the Hearing Impaired, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, or a closely related field.

  • Infant Toddler Developmental Specialist Certification (ITDS) and/or Teacher’s Certification in the State of Florida or eligibility to obtain such certification.

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

  • Ability to work 12-month school year.

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Commitment to the University’s core values.

  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office).

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
