The University of Miami/UHealth Department of The Miami Project has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Post Doctoral Associate to work at UHealth Medical Campus.
Core Job Summary
The Post Doctoral Associate performs scientific research and studies under the supervision of managing staff. Moreover, the Post Doctoral Associate promotes institutional recognition through literal contributions to the scientific community.
Core Responsibilities
Conducts research on specific areas of study as assigned.
Prepares research reports and technical papers for publishing.
Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and theories.
Maintains substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
Develops advanced analytical models and systems and provides solutions and analyses to support strategic and tactical decisions.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Department Specific Functions
The candidate should be interested in clinical and rehabilitation engineering research focused on developing and testing innovative approaches for neuromotor recovery after brain and spinal cord injury. Principle duties will involve operating and maintaining neuromodulation equipment, performing clinical research experiments and assessments, analyzing experimental data, and assisting with publishing research findings under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.
Prior technical experience with laboratory equipment for human neurophysiology and computer programming experience with Matlab is advantageous, but everyone is encouraged to apply.
A Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering, neuroscience, kinesiology, or a related field is required.
Other required skills include effective time management, strong project management, the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both written and verbally, and the ability to work as part of a team or independently.
Job responsibilities:
Provide technical support and perform research experiments in a clinical setting.
Operate and maintain equipment and configurations for conducting neuromodulation research studies and protocols involving brain-computer interface (BCI), functional electrical stimulation (FES), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and other relevant approaches.
Assist with the maintenance of laboratory equipment to ensure safe operation.
Assist with setting up data acquisition protocols and preparation of procedures manuals.
Teach new lab members how to operate and use the equipment.
Assist with conducting clinical and neurophysiological assessments.
Help with scheduling research participant visits and communicate with the research team.
Maintain supplies of items for research experiments.
Assists with processing regulatory documents.
Maintain accurate documentation and records of data collected in accordance with the guidelines.
Analyze, interpret, and synthesize data and results using scientific and statistical methods.
Prepare progress reports and provide updates on experiments and research outcomes to the research team members.
Participate in laboratory research meetings and contribute to scientific discussion.
Contribute to the publication and presentation of results, writing, and editing materials for publication.
