The University of Miami Health Systeme Department of Urology has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Finance (H) to work at Soffer Clinical Research Center in Miami. The incumbent coordinates the daily financial activities and functions for the assigned department/division(s) including accounting, budget, etc. Furthermore, the Manager, Finance (H) ensures all financial operations follow applicable governmental rules and regulations and provides mentorship and training to department staff regarding financial issues.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Oversees the budget preparation process and monitors department performance against budget.

  • Prepares and monitors staffing benchmarks.

  • Translates long-range strategy into executable business cases and financial planning.

  • Assists department with performing economic evaluation of new programs and equipment.

  • Performs trend analyses and volume projections.

  • Evaluates spending trends and develops strategies that will ensure compliance with budgets.

  • Drives the strategic direction and financial long-term investment process.

  • Forms and maintains effective partnerships across organizational boundaries.

  • Formulates monthly and annual financial statements.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Department Specific Functions

  • Develops, prepares and coordinates documentation of financial analysis projects such as budgets, forecasts, projections, expense performance, and presentations.

  • Identifies trends and provides analytical evaluation for forward-looking financial or business-related projects.

  • Devises financial forecasting and reconciliation of accounts.

  • Reviews reports and ensures that financial information has been recorded accurately.

  • Compares results with plans and forecasts and makes recommendations for adjustments.

  • Assists in the development and organization of department and project budgets.

  • Designs and builds various models that summarize several different scenarios around growth and expansion initiatives or opportunities.

  • Develops performance and productivity dashboards, models or analyses.

  • Determines profitability and pricing on product offerings and develops performance indicators to enable the analysis of business segments and new service lines.

  • Prepare journal entries and PAAs as needed

  • Create requests for purchase orders in Workday and contracts into Conga

  • Obtain and review vendor invoices/identify and resolve discrepancies

  • Process both internal and external reimbursements

  • Acts as liaison to other departments, vendors, and other external parties to complete assignments.

  • Assist department leaders in other assigned projects

  • Serve as Finance representative on projects/committees as requested

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field

Certification and Licensing:

Not Applicable

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

Gifts, grants and philanthropy financial management experience is strongly desired

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

  • Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.

  • Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
