The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute is currently seeking a full time Coordinator, Donor Eye Bank. The Coordinator, Donor Eye Bank coordinates all functions of tissue recovery relating to referrals from donor sources for the Donor Eye Bank. Moreover, this position interacts with donor family members, and key individuals and groups in a manner that reflects positively on the University.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Interviews referring hospital healthcare professionals concerning medical history of potential donors to determine donor eligibility.

  • Documents all information for each potential donor in applicable database.

  • Obtains legal authorization for eye tissue donation.

  • Completes a medical and social history questionnaire.

  • Coordinates ocular tissue recoveries and transportation with appropriate department staff.

  • Processes all donor referrals by telephone or email.

  • Ensures that all activities are compliant with applicable federal, state, and local laws.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Associate degree in relevant field

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
