Project Overview:

Today, our colleague’s team with customers, partners, and suppliers on diverse projects in nearly 40 countries. Bechtel’s focus on renewables and clean energy is helping our customers deliver transformational renewables and clean energy projects. Bechtel renewables team will perform the project management, engineering, procurement, and construction for a solar generating plant to be located in Mesquite, NV.

Job Summary:

The Civil Superintendent (Piles), will assist the Project Site Superintendent with plan development, training, environmental safety & health (ES&H), quality review, and technical support and participate in the direction of craft professional activities. You supervise and direct craft professionals, craft professional supervisors and others, as assigned and responsible for supervising and directing operations within the applicable discipline. Your work will help ensure construction operations are planned to coincide with overall established schedules and that work methods are planned and executed safely.

Major Responsibilities:

Planning / Productivity

  • Participates in the preparation of construction drawings and sketches.

  • Participates in the development of planning construction methods and procedures.

  • Develops projections and schedules for workforce, material and equipment requirements.

  • Responsible for the cost, schedule and optimization of craft labor and equipment.

  • Coordinate with the General Foreman to hire craft labor to execute work.

  • Lead the preparation and implementation of the 3-week look-ahead and four-week rolling schedule and budget control with support from Field Engineering and Project Controls.

  • Provide input to Field Engineering for quantity tracking application.

  • Prepare reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecasts.

Tools, Materials & Equipment

  • Monitors tool and equipment usage on the site.

  • Prepares Field Material Requisitions for tools and consumables and ensures that the crafts have the tools they require to be productive.

  • Review and approve major equipment mobilization and demobilization.

Safety / Quality

  • Provides leadership for environmental, safety, health, injury/accident and fire prevention on the project, including safety orientation, preparation of safety procedures and leading direct hire safety meetings.

  • Inspect area(s) for unsafe conditions, behaviors and practices and take appropriate corrective action to mitigate and eliminate.

  • Monitors installation of materials and equipment to assure conformance with drawings, specifications, vendor, and other requirements

  • Coordinate safety training and enforce safe work behaviors and practices at all times in conjunction with the Environmental Safety and Health (ESH) Lead.

  • Ensure that Bechtel Core processes and local/national safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied with within assigned area of responsibility.

  • Responsible for implementing corporate project policies, procedures and instructions within assigned civil work activities or applicable project specific policies and procedures.

Technical

  • Works with Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals, in interpreting Engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents

  • Participates in the coordination of engineering solutions with Subcontractors, and Foremen and Craft Professionals.

  • Ensure the applicable design document for piling are provided to direct hire craft personnel to complete work, and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.

Other

  • Interface with Labor/Industrial Relations for craft recruitment and training programs.

  • Approve workforce job requirements and review work accomplished by each craft.

  • Coordinate with other discipline superintendents with established area construction work activities and plans.

  • Prepare material requisitions for tools and consumables and coordinate through Supply Chain to obtain these materials.

  • Perform employee reviews and identify training and development opportunities for subordinate personnel.

  • Review craft time records using established automated tools.

  • Be the Champion for the ZERO Accident Program.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

​​​​​Required Skills

  • Sound interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills.

  • Previous supervisory experience within civil discipline.

  • Intermediate understanding of production management including scheduling.

  • Intermediate knowledge of cost management including estimating and forecast development.

Additional Skills

  • Knowledge of construction technologies.

  • Familiarity with current industry quality standards. Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H).

  • Intermediate knowledge of supervisory functions relating to construction field activities.

  • Preferably with prior experience of roadway construction, mass grading elements and slip-form paving activities.

  • Extensive experience in civil construction on large projects.

  • Have a working knowledge of structural construction operations, construction surveying, and driven piling operations.
