Job Title: Electric Distribution Dispatcher
Pay Rate: $46.02/hr.
Summary
Electric Distribution Dispatcher will receive and dispatch electric trouble, service, and system operation orders in a manner that optimizes safety, electric reliability, customer service, and workforce utilization.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Receives, assigns and dispatches requests for work to proper personnel.
Dispatches distribution switching operations and coordinate substation switching.
Analyzes and resolves customer inquiries, complaints and service problems.
Reviews for accuracy and completeness all reports, forms and orders. Originates additional orders, as required, for associated work.
Operates radio in accordance with the Federal Communications Commission and Company regulations.
Monitors radio to gain information on emergencies and critical conditions.
Receives, obtains, and relays information requested by Company personnel regarding name, address, location of facilities, etc.
Interprets information from trouble calls, alarm messages, trouble processing, feeder maps, and field crew communications to identify and locate trouble area.
Enters, monitors, receives, and processes information on a terminal remote control unit, and other related computer systems.
Executes requests for clearance of distribution lines and equipment, and notifies proper persons involved; dispatch orders on request for clearance and give clearance.
Informs incoming shift personnel of system status and issues to insure continuity of response to current system conditions.
Takes reasonable care of NIPSCO tools and equipment that are assigned to him during working hours.
Keeps assigned equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
Reports irregularities and abnormal conditions.
Directs and instructs employees assigned to work with him.
Assists in the training of other employees.
Performs similar or less skilled work in this classification, or when diversity of the workload requires, perform similar or less skilled work in equal or lower classifications.
Performs duties in accordance with NIPSCO’s safety rules, operating regulations and practices.
Completes any reports and forms used in connection with the performance of duties.
Required Qualifications for Position
Has satisfactorily progressed to Journeyman, Lineman, Substation Electrician, Dispatcher Operator, or the equivalent.
Pass a skills test for basic computer operation and basic electric knowledge, which includes, but is not limited to, the ability to operate a terminal remote control unit and other related computer systems.
Must pass an examination; either recorded, oral, written or practical, to determine the ability to absorb the training necessary to enter and progress within this classification.
Ability to discuss the customer’s service problems with intelligence, tact, and courtesy.
Ability to complete the Electric Dispatcher Training Courses provided by the Company and demonstrate satisfactory performance on the job.
Must successfully pass progressive qualification skill step testing before being allowed to proceed further to qualified Dispatcher Operator position.
