MIDWEST PROTOTYPING LLC CNC Machinist Lead in MENOMONIE, Wisconsin

JOB REQUIREMENTS: SHIFT: 2nd POSITION SUMMARY The role of a CNC Lead Machinist is to work in conjunction with the General Manager to manage workloads and machining priorities of the CNC department. This position will provide day-to-day leadership of personnel and problem-solving techniques to ensure project timelines and department goals are satisfied. This position will also be a contributing machinist of the department, using proficient machining techniques and processes to produce high precision parts. Being a clear communicator and having a positive influence on your team is crucial for success. LEAD RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate daily production needs with supervisor and assist in establishing machining priorities. Identify and communicate production challenges or successes and workload status. Use good judgement to make sound and reasonable decisions related to machining and production, quality, and cost control. Assist in overseeing labor data in ERP system. Train and mentor new employees on department operations and procedures. Be sought out to provide solutions to less experienced machinists. Collaborate with Project Managers to calculate time and material costs for quoting purposes. Collaborate with vendor representatives to maintain tools, equipment and supplies as required. Research and recommend purchase of tools, equipment, and supplies as required. Assisted in identifying and leading process improvement activities to increase department efficiencies. MACHINIST RESPONSIBILITIES: Read and interpret prints, specification sheets, and/or 3D files to determine program strategy. Select appropriate machine based on project specifications. Properly locate, open and save 3D files associated with project, post program to a machine using network links. Program parts using 2D and/or 3D toolpaths using Surfcam or Mastercam on mill and/or lathe; modify existing programs to enhance efficiency. Select the proper cutting tools needed to machine parts based on part geometry. Design custom fixtures for work holding as needed. Calculate cutting speeds and feeds and the depth of cuts based on material and work holding. Select and prepare raw materials for machining. Setup and operate multiple machines to perform milling and/or lathe activities. Perform dimensional and visual inspection of parts per specifications using basic measuring equipment. Track individual labor time using ERP system. Collaborate with team members to clarify project requirements and resolve issues.
