We’re seeking to hire a Mechanical Design Engineer – Intern / Co-Op to support PEMKO’s product line. Pemko and Markar Products is a company leading the industry in gasketing, thresholds, continuous hinges, sliding/folding door hardware and other architectural accessories. The ideal candidate is expected to demonstrate a synthesis of technical proficiency, creative ingenuity and a robust aptitude for effective problem solving.

This role is onsite in Memphis, TN.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with our dynamic Product Management team to breathe life into new product concepts. Bring innovation to the forefront by translating customer needs and company objectives into groundbreaking designs.

  • Take the lead in crafting and optimizing mechanical components for our cutting-edge Opening Systems. Your canvas includes thresholds, hinges, gasketing, automatic door bottoms, astragals, power transfers, sliding and folding hardware, and more. Let your creativity run wild!

  • Create and execute meticulous product testing & measurement plans; including alpha & beta testing, alongside compliance inspections. Your focus will be on ensuring durability and functionality, making you a true quality assurance virtuoso.

  • Delve deep into the intricacies of mechanical systems. Conduct structural, fatigue, thermal, and acoustics analyses to ensure our designs stand up to scrutiny.

  • Craft intricate design drawings that adhere to industry standards and tolerances, turning your visions into tangible realities.

  • Collaborate with external vendors to choose the right components, oversee manufacturing, and manage assembly processes, becoming the bridge between creativity and production.

  • Engage with a diverse group of professionals, including engineers, production experts, and other personnel, to troubleshoot issues, establish efficient procedures, and provide valuable technical insights.

  • Dive into the depths of customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals.

    Requirements:

  • Working toward a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Project).

  • Work experience with SolidWorks 3D CAD modeling and AutoCAD (preferred).

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Showcasing excellent problem-solving skills, you can untangle complex challenges with ease.

  • Self-driven learner with strong organizational skills.

  • A background in mechanical parts and systems design is preferred. Manufacturing experience adds to your appeal.
