Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a P rincipal Mission Planning Responsible Engineer/Sr. P rincipal Mission Planning Responsible Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Melbourne, FL.

This position is currently contingent on program award and associated program award funding. Start dates are determined after funding confirmation.

This position may be filled by either at the Principal Mission Planning Responsible Engineer level OR at the Sr. Principal Mission Planning Responsible Engineer level based on the qualifications listed.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Interpret, allocate, tailor, write and flow down requirements to all levels of a system architecture

  • Design and develop mission planning architectures, perform hardware/software integration and testing, certification and requirements analysis

  • Trade studies, documenting architectures, analyzing performance, and evaluating Technology Readiness Level (TRL) with regard to supplier current and future products offerings

  • Document designs using detailed schematics, diagrams and specifications

  • Collaborate with engineers and program stakeholders to integrate mission planning solutions to meet platform mission objectives

  • Technical management of program strategic partners and suppliers, including development, acquisition, acceptance, qualification, system integration and test support

  • Developing supplier documentation, performance based specifications, and statements of work

  • Building supplier evaluation criteria and experience in conducting technical evaluations, documenting results and selection

  • Review documents from the supplier’s development effort and support supplier technical interchange meetings and design reviews

A successful Mission Planning Responsible Engineer has good leadership skills and understands the scope of the work and the impact of the work on other teams, consistently brings up concerns, issues and risks to program and technical leadership and holds the team to a high level of technical rigor.

Basic Qualifications:

P rincipal Mission Planning Responsible Engineer (T03):

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university AND 5 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; OR a Master’s degree in a (STEM) discipline from an accredited university AND 3 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; or a Ph.D. (STEM) AND 0 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering.

  • Must have an Active, In-Scope, DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher that has been granted / renewed within the past 6 years.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Top Secret Security Clearance (needed to start).

  • Must have and maintain special program access after start of employment.

  • Demonstrated experience in mission planning development for military aircraft weapon systems

  • Experience with system modeling and requirements management tools (Cameo, DOORS, Rhapsody, etc.), developing/maturing requirements, and tracing requirements through various levels

Basic Qualifications:

Sr. P rincipal Mission Planning Responsible Engineer (T04):

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university AND 9 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; OR a Master’s degree in a (STEM) discipline from an accredited university AND 7 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering; or a Ph.D. (STEM) AND 3 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering.

  • Must have an Active, In-Scope, DOD Secret Security Clearance or higher that has been granted / renewed within the past 6 years.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain DOD Top Secret Security Clearance (needed to start).

  • Must have and maintain special program access after start of employment.

  • Demonstrated experience in mission planning development for military aircraft weapon systems

  • Experience with system modeling and requirements management tools (Cameo, DOORS, Rhapsody, etc.), developing/maturing requirements, and tracing requirements through various levels

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficient in the Joint Mission Planning System (JMPS)

  • Experience with working on a multidisciplinary team and writing technical proposals

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management

  • Experience with supplier/subcontract management

  • Experience with scheduling engineering activities

  • Experience with Agile development

  • An active Top Secret clearance

Salary Range: $92,600 - $139,000

Salary Range 2: $114,900 - $172,300

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
