The University of Miami/UHealth has an exciting opportunity for a Grants Accountant to support our programs.

Department Specifics:

This role involves managing financial and compliance aspects related to grant contracts. Responsibilities include coordinating contracts and grants, monitoring budgets, overseeing financial reporting, and conducting audits.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  • The Manager oversees the general accounting function for UHealth/MSOM and ensures compliance with organizational policies and GAAP.

  • The Manager, UHealth Accounting will review and verify the timeliness of entries in accordance with departmental policies and the adequacy of accounting entries in accordance with GAAP.

  • The Manager, UHealth Accounting provides oversight and development of UHealth Accounting staff.

  • Oversees the completion of UHealth/MSOM journal entries and account reconciliations.

  • Manages all financial close process and assists in all internal/external audits.

  • Assists in the monthly financial statement variance analysis proving insightful explanations.

  • Evaluates and makes appropriate improvements to internal accounting processes ensuring that practices are in line with the overall goals of the organization.

  • Ensures UHealth/MSOM’s financial records are accurate and supported by proper documentation.

  • Drives team collaboration and performance while encouraging individual contribution.

  • Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationship.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls and compliance with University policies and procedures.

  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

  • Performs ad hoc analysis and projects as requested.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.

  • Self-driven and able to work in a fast-paced environment to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to create a collaborative working environment.

  • Ability to prepare financial and accounting records.

  • Ability to analyze, consolidate, and interpret accounting data.

  • Ability to compile, organize, interpret, and communicate accounting data and results concisely.
