General Foreperson (General Foreman)

The General Foreperson’s primary responsibility is to direct, supervise, monitor, and coach crews during work, ensuring proper administration of training, disciplinary action, work production and adherence to Safety practices and interpretation of policies. Additional responsibilities include project tracking, crew scheduling, and ensuring proper equipment maintenance & repairs are performed.

American Lighting and Signalization (ALS) provides street lighting and traffic signalization construction, maintenance and emergency response services in the Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic United States. Our major customers include state departments of transportation (DOTs), investor-owned and municipal utilities, commercial retail land developments and commercial road contractors.

Job Type : Full-Time, Exempt

Pay : $54,000.00 to $62,400.00 Annually – Paid Weekly

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for training crews on proper job briefing techniques, work tasks and ensuring hazards associated with the job are mitigated.

  • Confers with customers, property owners, contractors, representatives of utilities and governmental agencies.

  • Provides daily communication with the customer’s representatives and internal team members to perform work as needed.

  • Directs crew leaders on specific job tasks.

  • Participates in company training of all regional safety guidelines and is required to perform all work by the regional safety policies.

  • Responsible for job cost controls and the maintenance and accuracy of records.

  • Responsible for inspections, proper working conditions, and necessary repairs to tools and equipment.

  • Directs emergency situations, assists with accident reports, and incident investigations.

  • All other duties as required or requested by managers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Basic computer skills required. Additional application specific training provided, as needed.

  • Experience with DOT related construction projects required.

  • Must be able to pass a DOT physical to obtain a DOT medical card.

  • Ability to oversee multiple crews and jobs.

  • Must be able to identify and mitigate job site hazards.

  • Must have cognition to solve problems.

  • Ability to read and interpret plans/specs, visualize the job, and ensure crews work safely & productively.

  • Must be able to work long hours and overtime during emergencies. Subject to call-out work. Eligible for overtime pay on call-out work.

Education & Experience

  • A minimum of one year of experience in a supervisory role required.

  • High School Diploma or GED Preferred.

  • Experience in Microsoft Excel and Outlook required.

Pre-Screen

  • Upon offer, employees will be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.

License & Certifications:

  • Driver's License required

  • CDL Preferred

Travel:

  • Travel requirements change based on project locations. Overnight stays will be necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • RARE (less than 10%): crawling, climbing, gripping, lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): standing, stooping, kneeling, squatting, body-twisting, sense of touch, manual dexterity, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., reaching, range-of-motion, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders, climbing stairs, balancing.

  • FREQUENT (up to 66%): walking, sitting, climbing on/off truck, reading, lifting up to 10 lbs.

  • CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): speaking clearly, seeing distant, seeing, hearing-speech-range, depth-perception, color vision.
