Department Summary:

MITRE’s End-to-End Systems Engineering Department is looking for systems engineers with an interest in advancing and applying innovative systems engineering techniques to help solve some of our nation's most critical challenges in delivering services to citizens throughout defense and intelligence, aviation, homeland security, the judiciary, healthcare, and cybersecurity domains. We are looking for highly-motivated, adaptive, and self-directed candidates with a solid systems engineering foundation in or a motivation to build technical skills supporting the development and deployment of nationally important solutions through Systems Requirements and Architecture, System-of-Systems, Systems Thinking and Model-Based Systems Engineering practices

Roles & Responsibilities:

As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will leverage your systems engineering expertise to you will leverage and grow your systems engineering expertise to provide support across a variety of system development lifecycles, through the design, implementation, and integration of enterprise systems and system-of-systems for federal agencies. Specific responsibilities may include:

  • Apply cutting edge methods and tools (such as Model-Based Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering, Machine Learning, Data Analytics) to assess designs, identify, and mitigate performance constraints and gaps, evaluate proposed changes, and support verification and test, to solve problems that make the world a safer place.

  • Supporting MITRE teams in advising government leaders in defining the context, problem space and vision to determine capabilities, priorities, road maps, and technology needs using modern system engineering approaches.

  • Supporting requirements management and analysis, interface management, architecture development and test and evaluation processes.

  • Independently conducting qualitative and quantitative systems engineering analyses that can be translated into actionable recommendations for federal agencies.

  • Leading small teams of systems engineers to develop data-driven products to support government decision making.

  • Participation in internal and external research opportunities in cutting edge engineering fields.

  • Applying systems engineering skills to drive a holistic approach to systems development and design.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or relevant technical discipline.

  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with relevant experience

  • Experience using quantitative and qualitative systems engineering tools to such as MagicDraw/Cameo, Rhapsody, AnyLogic, MatLab or other relevant systems engineering tools

  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong critical thinking skills.

  • Able to obtain a Secret level security clearance by your start date. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics or relevant technical discipline.

  • Experience using UML/ SysML and associated modeling software to support system development and SoS development.

  • Experience using operational analysis tools (such as AFSIM, STK, Command PE) or Data Analytics tools and languages (such as R, Python/pySim, MATLAB) to conduct analyses of operational effectiveness of systems or systems of systems.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to develop a trusted advisor relationship with government leaders, and effectively communicate.

  • Experience integrating models across modeling and simulation applications to perform detailed analysis by leveraging data from multiple engineering disciplines.

  • Experience developing plugins and extending the capability of system architecture modeling tools such as MagicDraw/Cameo or Rhapsody

  • Broad systems engineering experience including early concept development, requirements analysis, design, test and evaluation, and risk assessment

  • Experience supporting detailed design, development, and deployment programs on complex government systems.
