The Collection Technology Department (N933), within the MITRE Intelligence Center, is seeking a motivated and experienced individual to serve as the N933 Chief Engineer (CE) to join our team in support of our sponsor. N933 harnesses cutting-edge technology and innovative techniques to enhance the development, engineering, and management of technical collection and special communications systems. N933 provides support to the Intelligence Community in technical areas such as Acquisition and Program Management​, Computer Science, Data Processing and Data Analysis, Design and Development of Collection Systems​, Independent Verification and Validation, Network Architecture and Engineering​, Prototyping and Testing, Requirements Analysis and Measurement​, Special Communications​, Systems Engineering, and Technical Analysis​.

Roles & Responsibilities:

This is a Principal position that will support one of N930’s most critical programs. This rapidly-growing task requires the ability to balance technical rigor, mission focus, and academic experience to help ensure that products and trusted advice provided under this effort are of the highest quality. The successful candidate will perform hands-on technical analysis and engineering studies as well as deliverable quality reviews. This person may also be required to lead small teams of subject matter experts (SMEs) to address specific tasks as necessary. The successful applicant MUST have the technical and political; acumen to develop and communicate critical information to a variety of sponsor, contractor, and FFRDC staff as needed.

Highly competitive candidates will bring an exceptionally strong and broad technical background, including demonstrated expertise and technical leadership experience. Duties will include some or all of the following:

  • Performing hands-on business and technical analysis and executing technical and domain studies to make recommendations for improvement across the full spectrum of sponsor technology and problem space.

  • Working in a dynamic environment addressing cutting-edge technology and domain challenges and be able to approach new problems where a solution does not already exist.

  • Applying technical and domain judgment to make recommendations on Sponsor technology, concepts, processes, and products.

  • Integrating tradecraft with cutting edge technologies relevant to the sponsor program missions.

  • Executing research and development plans in key emerging technologies.

  • The application of systems engineering and acquisition practices for the sponsor, particularly with large and complex systems.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Applicants MUST hold an active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph to be considered

  • Held a Task Leader, Project Leader, or Group Leader position (or equivalent experience)

  • Typically requires a minimum of 10 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical talent (including knowledge transfer) and multidisciplinary teams to achieve solutions to complex technical challenges.

  • Demonstrated ability to exemplify cultural drivers - operates with speed, urgency, and decisiveness; takes appropriate risks and bold actions; demonstrates adaptability and seeks out the hardest challenges; demonstrates collaboration, grace, and respect

  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify and successfully solve complex technical challenges across business lines and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply conceptual and innovative thinking to develop multidisciplinary solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate highly complex technical challenges effectively.

  • Demonstrated ability to work across stakeholders and resolve complex issues.

  • Understanding of national security priorities and intelligence community organizational policies, priorities, and missions.

  • Excellent written and oral communication with peers and with seniors. This is a sponsor facing position.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with Sponsor and with MITRE staff

  • Familiarity with general project management and acquisition concepts

  • Understanding of Sponsor environment, constraints, technical landscape, and strategic direction

  • Solid understanding of sponsor mission

  • Self-starter with initiative and vision

  • This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Success developing strategic relationships with senior leaders and sponsors – and converting those into impactful outcomes on critical national security initiatives, technical challenges, and priorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex programs and synthesize how disparate activities support a strategic mission objective or outcome.

  • Familiarity with relevant US Government technologies and programs.

  • Familiarity with national security operational environments, threats, and complexities.

  • Successful participation in end-to-end system development activities from CONOPS to operations.

  • Understanding of organizational policies, priorities, and missions for US Government organizations in the work program.
