South Pike School District Healthy Choices Coordinator - After School in McComb, Mississippi

Manage and Conduct the Implementation of Healthy Choices in Afterschool and Summer Programs:

  • Work with the Program Coordinator to plan and implement an established plan for appropriate and structured physical and nutrition activities during the Healthy Choices component
  • Participate in all training related to Healthy Choices and other required Save the Children training and meetings

``` - Guide and coordinate the implementation and monitoring of the Healthy Choices program and provide all children with moderate to vigorous physical activity and nutrition education lessons. - Oversee the accurate monitoring of the Healthy Choices program by collecting and entering relevant program data (e.g., class attendance and daily activities) in Save the Children's web-based system (SCORE) within designated time frames. - Maintain access to a computer at the school partner site and check email correspondence daily to follow up promptly with requested tasks and deadlines identified by Save the Children staff members. - Coordinate, schedule, and monitor the operation and maintenance of the physical activity facility, physical activity, and nutrition equipment, and other materials utilized in Healthy Choices program activities. - Ensure daily snack is served by Save the Children's Healthy Snack Standards. Utilize best practices approach in ensuring child-friendly snack preparation and verbally communicating the connection between snack served and monthly nutrition theme to children, when applicable. - Plan, prepare and lead weekly 15-minute nutrition education lessons as defined by Save the Children's nutrition themes and lesson guidelines; engage children in Nutrition Word of the Week discussion. - Work effectively with other program staff, such as Program Coordinators and literacy tutors to integrate Healthy Choices program activities into another programming, i.e. RAvFL. - Prepare monthly Healthy Choices bulletin board feature with a monthly theme and information tidbit for parent display. - Disseminate educational and informational materials relevant to the Healthy Choices program activities. - Participate in additional nutrition and physical activities in both the out-of-school and in-school time and facilitate meetings and special projects, as appropriate. - Supervise volunteers engaged in Healthy Choices program activities, as applicable. - Perform other relevant assigned job-related duties, as needed.

Ensure Child Safeguarding Policies are followed:

In this role, it will be critical to foster an environment that is safe for the children with whom Save the Children is in contact. The duties to ensure this will include:  

  • Collaborate with Save the Children's Program Specialist to foster an understanding of our child safeguarding and data protection policies through ongoing training and technical assistance.
  • Work closely with other program staff to ensure consistent reporting of child safeguarding risks and incidents; strong methodology in the fie d for managing risks and following reporting protocols; supplying proper documentation in support of incident reports as needed, and collecting data on child safeguarding risks and efforts to mitigate risks in the program environment.
  • Make intentional, regular efforts to remain up-to-date on key local and state child welfare policies and reporting protocols.
  • Follow all key local and state child welfare policies and reporting protocols provided by the Program Specialist.
  • In association with program training and technical assistance efforts, update/communicate "Keep Children Safe" messaging to volunteers, beneficiaries, and representatives as needed.
  • Ensure data protection by collecting consent, maintaining records for the designated period, storing all data in a secure location, and protecting any shared data through encryption or by sharing to a secure location.
  • Complete all required Save the Children Child Safeguarding training.
