We are looking for you to join our team as a Component and Design Documentation Engineer based in Sacramento , CA . As a Component Engineer at Northrop Grumman you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. What You’ll get to Do:

Research, coordinate, and support analysis teammates in the selection and qualification of electronic, electric, and electromechanical components/assemblies to ensure they meet product specifications and are reliable, effective, and sustainable. The successful candidate will support the engineering team in PM&P (Parts Material and Processes) technical execution and analysis. In addition, the candidate will analyze preliminary plans and execute PMMP (Part and Material Management Plan) in accordance with established processes to achieve company, customer, and governmental agency objectives for product longevity. General tasks include, but not limited to:

  • Manage Bill-of-Materials, new part requests, part objects, and part attributes in a Product Lifecycle Management System

  • Support program subcontractors with non-metallic part requirements interpretation and review of Subcontractor Data Requirements Lists (SDRLs)

  • Work with manufacturing and subcontractors to resolve qualification, producibility, and test issues with non-metallic parts and their related processes.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Recommend and assist in selecting sources of supply and develops alternate sources of supply

  • Performs part management activities in alignment with PM&P Management Plan

  • Ensure existing and new part numbers and descriptions are correct and crossed with manufacturers’ part numbers

  • Manage/update part data in product lifecycle management (PLM) system

  • Reviews and adjudicates non-conforming/variance components before review board, as required

  • Review assigned components for design ensuring life cycle status and qualification requirements

  • Familiar in material processes, lead-free control plans, and hexavalent chromium management/mitigation strategies, according to program requirements

  • Contribute to ERB (Engineering Review Board), CCB (Change Control Board), MRB (Material Review Board), and FRB (Failure Review Board), as required

  • Prepares materials for and supports the various programs and technical meetings

  • Must have good oral and written communications skills and have the ability to work with little direct supervision being self-motivated and self-starting

This position may be filled as a Component & Design Documentation Engineer or Principal Component & Design Documentation Engineer

Basic Qualifications for Component & Design Documentation Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in science, engineering, or related discipline with 2 years of experience; or 0 years of relevant experience with a Masters (MS) degree

  • An additional 4 years of relevant experience/education can be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science Degree

  • Demonstrated engineering experience preferably in technical services, maintenance, or a related field. Internship or co-op experience in an engineering role is a plus.

  • Familiarity with engineering design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, NX and analytical tools

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation IAW ASME Y14 Standards & Tolerancing

  • Must be a US citizen

  • Clearance : Must be able and willing to obtain and maintain a US DOD Secret Clearance

Basic Qualifications for Principal Component & Design Documentation Engineer:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in science, engineering, or related discipline with 5 years of experience; or 3 years of relevant experience with a Masters (MS) degree; or 0 years with a PhD;

  • An additional 4 years of relevant experience/education can be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science Degree

  • Demonstrated engineering experience preferably in technical services, maintenance, or a related field. Internship or co-op experience in an engineering role is a plus.

  • Familiarity with engineering design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, NX and analytical tools

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation IAW ASME Y14 Standards & Tolerancing

  • Must be a US citizen

  • Clearance : Must be able and willing to obtain and maintain a US DOD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years working with SD-19, SD-22, and MIL STD 11991A

  • 2 years using IHS Part Intelligence, GIDEP, Part Finder or equivalent

  • 2 years using DLA ASSIST and/or DLA Qualified Products Database (QPD/QPL)

  • 2 year working with CPLM, Teamcenter PLM

  • Experience writing, auditing, and maintaining material and/or process specifications.

  • Familiarity with material aging studies, Arrhenius methodology and/or accelerated life testing.

  • Working knowledge of MIL-STD-11991 and its application to missile programs, MIL-STD-1568 for corrosion prevention of Aerospace Weapons Systems, and MIL-STD-7179 Finishes, Coatings, and Sealants for the Protection of Aerospace Weapons Systems

Salary Range: $79,300 - $118,900

Salary Range 2: $97,500 - $146,300

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
