National Energy is looking for a strong, motivated Instrumentation & Controls Technician to join our team in McBain, MI.

The I & C Technician will perform the inspection, maintenance and repair for all equipment control circuits including electrical, electronic, and pneumatic systems, telemetry systems, signal devices, flow meters, ultrasonic level transmitters, and other equipment found in a water treatment facility.

The I & C Technician will interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, sketches, plans and technical documents; perform the calibration and repair of all flow metering devices; perform work with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), networking, and graphical user interfaces with equipment that communicates with the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system; recommend control system modifications with documented justification that will result in standard utilization of parts and materials and will reduce operating and repair costs; establish and maintain scheduled control system maintenance and calibration programs for plant equipment; direct the work of subcontractors and all outside control system repair work; maintain record keeping associated with all SCADA / I&C repairs and modifications and perform other duties as required.

Responsible for the safe operation of all fuel yard equipment required to receive and unload railcars, sort, grind, stack, transport fuel, and maintain storage for power plant operations.

    Essential Job Functions:

    Safety is a core value of National Energy. In this position, the I & C Technician will be responsible for maintaining and improving the reliability of production by installing/replacing and calibrating quality instrumentation but will ensure all work is performed in a safe manner and in continued compliance with established procedures and OSHA regulations.

  • Safely install, test, debug and troubleshoot various pieces of equipment, preforming inspections as required.

  • Safely perform Preventative Maintenance work to meet production schedules.

  • Diagnose and repair instrumentation equipment problems and breakdowns to reduce impact on operations.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical diagrams and OEM Manuals.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work area; reports or resolves any unsafe conditions immediately.

  • Must perform consistent and accurate work.

  • Perform inspection and maintenance activities on all equipment in accordance with established schedules, or as needed.

  • Capable of performing several routine duties involving various procedures which require minor decisions.

  • Participate in required safety/regulatory training.

  • Participate in various company provided proficiency training programs in addition to on-going job training.

  • Interface with other members of the Maintenance Department, along with Operations and Woodyard teams.

  • Respond to emergency situations and or call outs as required.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Spends nearly 100% of time in an outside environment subject to extreme heat or extreme cold during shift. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard above the ambient noise level.

  • Physical Requirements: Stand, Walk, Climb, Bend, Twist, Move Throughout the Day, Use Hands in Repetitive Motions, Repeat Same Movements, walk on uneven terrain, Lift 50 pounds, and Exposed to Loud Noises.

  • May be exposed to possible operations hazards including fumes and vapors from fuels and other substances, heavy machinery operations, rotating equipment, electrical energy, high pressure steam, hot or cold work environment temperatures, slippery surfaces, water hazards and moving heavy equipment.

    Qualifications:

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.

  • Basic electrical knowledge.

  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.

  • Physical ability to operate a motor vehicle and heavy equipment. Must possess a valid state of Michigan driver-s license.

  • Must have reliable transportation to and from work and the ability to show up to work on scheduled dates on time.

  • 3-5 years of trade experience.

  • Two to four (2-4) years of experience with the maintenance, repair and calibration of instrumentation and control systems.

  • Associates degree related to electrical, electronic, control systems, programming, computer science, etc.

  • Experience and knowledge of National Electric Code

  • Experience and knowledge with Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS), Continuous Opacity Monitoring Systems (COMS) and Environmental Compliance.

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, and instruments used in the maintenance, repair and calibration of electrical and electronic control systems.

  • Knowledge of the principle and practices of an effective control system preventive maintenance program, safe work practices, and related state and federal laws and regulations.

  • Mechanical and or electrical knowledge and skills related to power plant operations.

  • Rudimentary knowledge of PLCs and human machine interfaces (HMI).
