Nexus Engineering Group Piping Engineer in Maumee, Ohio

The Piping Engineer creates and establishes complex designs consistent with good practices, client requirements and conformance to Codes & Standards. Engineers apply Computer Aided Design techniques to generate and interpret engineering designs in support of assigned projects. A significant amount of the design work is done in 3D software.

The Piping Engineer reports to the Piping Discipline Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops complex engineering drawings under supervision.

  • Applies a solid level of understanding within a specific discipline.

  • Understands codes, permits, and software applications related to the discipline.

  • Fully understands the process of preparing designs and drawings using project specifications and discipline, including associated written and verbal instructions in accordance with established design practices, standards, and procedures.

  • Understands the purpose and use of vendor documents and reviews discipline supplier documents for accuracy.

  • Organizes the 3D models and conducts internal and external 3D review meetings

  • Knowledge of cost estimating methods; can perform material take-offs for the discipline.

  • Understands the project change control process and can identify a potential change.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of piping design experience 

  • Proficient in basic computer functions required to perform 3-D CAD design work. (software: AutoCAD, Plant 3D, BIM/Revit, Navisworks, Inventor

  • Associates Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent. (BS Degree Preferred)

  • Proficient in field investigations and measurements

  • Exposure in working with piping isometric drawings and creating engineering and construction packages

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (software: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Working knowledge of Industry Standards such as API, ASME, ASTM, PIP

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. The Instrumentation and Controls Designer should be aware that the design process includes visiting clients’ facilities and performing physical work such as walking, standing, climbing ladders and lifting.
