The Utility Maintenance Worker will be working closely with the Water Crew Leader, Wastewater Lead Operator and Utilities Superintendent. The Utility Maintenance Worker will be in charge of delivering to the public a safe environment, while providing satisfactory services. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, responding to service and work orders, meter reads, meter connections, repairs and replacements of water meters, line locates, leaks, operations of pumps, belt press and lift stations. Reports to Utilities Superintendent over State and Federal environmental regulations and standards. Utility Maintenance Worker is required to be on-call on a rotating basis and must hold the appropriate Wastewater Treatment Plant license and Water Operator license. This position performs a variety of other duties as assigned by the Department Leads and/or Utilities Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Assist in repair and routine maintenance of all components of the wastewater treatment plant, lift stations, back-ups, belt press, spills, as well as preventative maintenance of wastewater treatment plant pumps, motors, and essential equipment

Collect and deliver data to include daily logs, pumping manifests, and maintenance log

Takes samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analysis

Monitor lift stations and plants for proper operation

Change chlorine bottles

Service and repair pumps, chlorinators, and other equipment

Replace valves and lines around pump stations and plants

Observe grounds maintenance and landscaping tasks

Submit and file all necessary TCEQ paperwork in compliance with regulations

Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of wastewater, sludge, and effluent

Reads residential and commercial water meters for new and existing services

Provides water usage readings for the monthly billing to the Utility Billing Supervisor; disconnects customers water for non-payment of utility bills

Investigates customers inquiries and complaints

Performs daily service and work orders from the Citys software program(s)

Detect and provide water and sewer line locates

Turns water services on or off; locates, locks, and/or removes meters

Repair water main breaks and service lines; flushes, repairs, and replaces fire hydrants; rebuilds and repairs water meters

Organize and manage an inventory of parts and supplies

Obtain the rules and regulations for the Public Water Systems established by TCEQ

Cleans and maintains equipment used in daily activities

Perform other duties as assigned

Responds to emergency operations and on-call situations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Modern methods and applied theory used in the wastewater collection system

OSHA safety rules and regulations, and safety standards in utility plant environments

The ability to follow written and/or oral directions and maintain the wastewater collection system and wastewater treatment plant

Communicate effectively both written and orally

Understand, interpret, and carry out oral and written instructions

Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and legally

Ability to endure varying weather conditions provided the time of year

Ability to complete daily work assignments

Ability to lift, carry or push less than or equal to 100lbs

Ability to sit, bend, twist, crouch, walk and crawl on a daily basis

Ability to operate essential heavy machinery needed to complete assigned work

Respond timely and effectively to any emergency situations

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a High School diploma or GED

Valid drivers license

Any combination of training, education, and experience which demonstrates an ability to perform the duties of the position
