This position is primarily telework with a need to occasionally travel to attend meetings, hearings or visit program sites throughout Minnesota. This team is currently teleworking; however, this may change in the future with notice.

Direct Care and Treatment (DCT) is seeking an individual to join our team for an exciting and rewarding opportunity as a Legislative Affairs Coordinator. This position provides legislative planning expertise, drafts legislation, facilitates stakeholder engagement, coordinates the agency development of, response to proposed legislative changes impacting the Direct Care and Treatment (DCT) Administration throughout the legislative development and adoption process.

  • Assists with coordinating and facilitating the development of the agency’s legislative policy and budget proposals.

  • Attends and monitors relevant legislative hearings and events at the legislature

  • Facilitates the agency’s participation in the legislative process and response to proposed legislation, legislators, and stakeholders.

  • Assists with the development of hearing testimony and related materials to ensure agency priorities are reflected and the appropriate agency perspective is communicated.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three (3) years’ experience which includes advising management regarding proposed legislation, policies, or programs demonstrating

  • Thorough knowledge of the overall structure and operations of the state government and the legislative process.

  • Knowledge of how state laws and federal regulations impact state agencies

  • Drafting proposals and interpreting statutes

  • Exceptional strong, persuasive oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing.

  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail and strict timelines. Ability to establish priorities and respond to constantly changing deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, communications, political science or other closely related field

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
