Army National Guard Units SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (TITLE 32) in Marseilles, Illinois

Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1290000 and is part of the IL UTES, National Guard. Responsibilities As a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC SUPERVISOR (TITLE 32), WS-5801-10, you will supervise workers directly or through subordinate leaders and/or supervisors in accomplishing work of the function; plan work operations of great scope, complexity, and administrative authority; determine the sequence, priority, and time for performance of operations within the limits of broad work schedules and time limits. Major Duties - This is NOT an all-inclusive list: Plan use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on a week-to-week or month-to-month basis. Establish deadlines, priorities, and work sequences, and plan work assignments based on general work schedules, methods, and policies set by the supervisor. Participate in the initial planning of current and future work schedules, staffing needs, estimates, and recommendations as to scheduling projected work. Note work related problems and independently implement corrective actions, which can be taken without affecting work operations controlled by other supervisors. Assures tools, special tools, test measurement and diagnostic equipment, personal protective equipment, repair parts, petroleum, oils and lubricants, and other materiel are available when needed. Manage maintenance backlog through coordination with other maintenance activities. Evacuate and accept equipment, repairs, and services to and from other maintenance facilities. Perform non-supervisory work, such as, transporting equipment, performing maintenance tasks, etc. Determine skills, materials, and equipment required to do the work. Assign tasks to be performed based on readiness and explains work requirements, methods, and procedures. Ensure equipment repairs do not exceed maintenance expenditure limits in accordance as established by regulation and or policies. Ensure the employees wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions. Recommend solutions to staffing problems, engineering requirements, and work operations directed by other supervisors. Investigate work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity and determines causes. Provide management with workload data, estimates, and recommendations to facilitate more effective management decisions for staffing and funding requirements to support customer units. Determine the number and types of workers needed to accomplish specific projects. Requirements Conditions of Employment This is an excepted service position that requires membership in the Illinois National Guard and in the military grade listed in the announcement. This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. If an Optional Form (OF) 306, Declaration of Employment is submitted prior to the point of a conditional offer, questions related to background information section may not be asked. Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day. Qualifications AREA OF CONSIDERATION: The areas of considerations for this position, Title 32 Excepted Service (32 U.S. Code ยง 709), will be in the following manner and sequence, The FIRST area of consideration for this position will be all excepted permanent and indefinite temporary technicians within the ILNG. Military Grades: Warrant Officer - Minimum Rank of WO1 - Maximum Rank CW4 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: MUST possess experience or training which demonstrates the ability to organize assignments for subordinates, estimate material and manpower needed for specific jobs; ability to explain manuals and work procedures; and to prepare production records, work records and reports. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: WS-10 Level MUST possess experience or training diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems; experience which has provided a thorough knowledge of diagnostic equipment; experience applying independent judgment in determining methods and techniques required to solve unusually complex maintenance and repair problems; experience in testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems. SPECIALIZED SUPERVISORY EXPERIENCE: WS-10 Level MUST possess, in addition to the journeyman level knowledge, experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel; experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines; experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function; experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes; experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
