POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mechanical Foreman will participate and oversee the installation or maintenance and inspection of HVAC, Utility and Process piping systems including Sub-Contractors.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Regular attendance at assigned location; may include A/Z office or other project site;

  • Act as a team leader in the execution of mechanical work safely and with the objective of constructing a best in class product;

  • Oversee and audit site safety and quality control programs;

  • Ensure all site safety work permits as defined within the Project Specific Safety Program are acknowledged and adhered to;

  • Coordinate interface between project management and site operation participants in the execution of construction services;

  • Oversee and coordinate any Sub-Contractors work that may be working under the Mechanical Division, ie: Sheet Metal, Building Controls, Insulator, etc.

  • Confirm the design intent with architectural, engineering, and consultants in accordance with Standard Project Control requirements;

  • Coordinate field trade activities in accordance with the project schedule and help with developing the three week look ahead coordination schedules with all appropriate Project Team Participants;

  • Attend all trade contractor weekly coordination meetings with Project Manager and/or Project Engineer;

  • Coordinate equipment and specialty material deliveries and staging requirements;

  • Assist with coordination and scheduled shut-downs as required to support any associated on-site operational requirements;

  • Support constructability and value management analysis with best industry practices;

  • Assess trade contractor earned value status with Project Management Team for monthly requisitions;

  • Maintain project as-built documentation and site coordination drawings;

  • Establish work completion and punch lists in accordance with established Quality Control and Quality Assurance Programs;

  • Ensure field installation compliance with all technical specifications, approved shop drawings and submittals;

  • Support interface with Client Representatives on pro-active customer centric basis;

  • Complete associated Superintendent project control requirements in accordance to Corporate Standard Operating Practices and Procedures;

  • Support field investigation analysis for potential claim / issue resolution practices with Project Team, as required;

  • Support field close-out, commissioning, and validation requirements as defined with the Project Team;

  • Insure the necessary equipment and materials are always available to support the field team so as to maximize productivity;

  • Supervise and participate in the installations of Heating Hot Water, Chilled Water, Steam, Condensate, Compressed Air, Process Fluids, Chemical, Fuel Oil, Gasses, and other related systems;

  • Works with materials that include carbon steel, stainless steel, plastics, fiberglass, copper, (brazed, soft soldered and pro-press);

  • Perform layout and develop isometric drawings for piping systems;

  • Understand the constructability requirements for installing pre-fabricated piping systems including location of field fit welds, random spool lengths, installation logic, etc.;

  • Measure, cut, thread or bend pipe to required angle using hand or power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines or pipe-bending machines;

  • Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes or fixtures in structures using measuring instruments such as rulers or levels;

  • Test pipes or fixtures for leaks using various methods;

  • Assemble pipe sections, tubing or fittings using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, soldering or brazing equipment;

  • Perform proper fit-up of pipe, fittings and flanges for open root butt welding and socket welding;

  • Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances or fixtures using hand or power tools;

  • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors;

  • Direct helpers or apprentices in appropriate tasks;

  • Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, plans or specifications to determine work details or procedures;

  • Must maintain strict adherence to safety rules and quality;

  • Insure proper site housekeeping is always maintained;

  • Interact with co-workers in an attentive courteous manner;

  • Additional duties as directed by management.

Qualifications

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work independently and manage a team of pipe fitters, plumbers, welders and apprentices;

  • Experience: 10 years of Field Experience;

  • Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in industrial construction;

  • Attention to detail and quality;

  • Be highly focused on customer satisfaction expectations;

  • Good documentation and record keeping;

  • Preparation of miscellaneous paperwork including time sheets, daily reports and material requests;

  • Competency in Permit Required Confined Space;

  • Understanding and development of daily Job Hazard Analysis (JHA);

  • Appropriate state certification or license;

  • OSHA 10 certification.
