JOB SUMMARY: The Field Geologist leads project teams engaged in environmental investigation and remediation projects supporting project work throughout the US. Drilling, well installation, soil and groundwater sampling experience is required. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Function as field lead for drilling and sampling projects in the field using a variety of techniques including HSA, direct-push, rotasonic, low-flow groundwater sampling, etc. Prepare field logs for soil borings and groundwater monitoring well installations using standard soil classification and project specific well construction requirements. Define technical and regulatory requirements and sampling approaches to meet state and federal regulatory requirements and project specific objectives, including permitting, planning and implementation of corrective actions. Develop technical approaches to geologic and hydrogeologic data collection and evaluation for incorporation into Quality Assurance Project Plans. Lead multi-disciplinary project teams in the delivery of compliant and complete quality field data collection efforts. Provide strong technical writing skills sufficient to prepare complete and complex planning documents and reports. Provide geologic and hydrogeologic data interpretation and apply data results to develop regulatory and technical solutions under RCRA/CERCLA/State voluntary programs. Communicate verbally and in written form directly with senior project managers and clients regarding project issues, status, geologic findings/interpretation and overall project performance. Comply with all applicable health, safety and quality requirements. EDUCATION: BS in geology, hydrogeology or other relevant geological science discipline is required; a master's degree is desirable. Preference given to GIT or PG certification. NECESSARY EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: Proficiency in MS Office applications including Word, Excel and Access. Experience with evaluation of monitored natural attenuation and optimization of long-term monitoring networks, including methods such as kriging and use of specialty software for geospatial analysis. Minimum 3 years of subsurface geologic and hydrogeologic interpretation (such as field logging, preparation of cross-sections, etc.) OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Understanding and experience working within RCRA Corrective Action and CERCLA regulatory investigation, remediation and performance monitoring and reporting programs is preferred. Must have a strong personal work ethic; The ability to work independently as well as with small and large teams across many professional levels and disciplines is critical to success; Well-developed organizational, communication, and analytical skills; An analytical mindset with problem-solving skills. and Must live within commuting distance of Marietta, OH. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods of time; Must have ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time in inclement weather conditions; Must have the ability walk over difficult terrain to access sampling sites and observe/lead field work; Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle, including pulling a trailer, to remote work sites; and Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times. This is a full-time salaried position reporting to our Marietta, Ohio office. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Project specific needs may require after hours and weekend work, including travel.
