YAI Special Education Student Teacher in Manhattan, New York

The Student Teacher Intern will be assigned the following tasks:

  • Plan, instruct, and assess a variety of pedagogical and curricular activities

  • Discuss and plan classroom lessons and activities with the Cooperating Teacher daily

  • Write lesson plans, invite feedback, and incorporate Mentor Teacher, Field Supervisor, and Seminar Instructor suggestions

  • Work with individual children, small groups, and the whole class in all curricular areas

  • Participate as observers in all professional development workshops, faculty meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and (with parent consent) IEP meetings

Additional responsibilities of the Student Teacher Intern include:

  • Following the schedule of the Mentor Teacher and program

  • Being professional, punctual, and observing program rules

  • Respecting confidentiality by not disclosing information outside of the appropriate staff

This is an unpaid internship opportunity that is only open to current students. The internship may be able to satisfy course credit if approved by the student's institution of learning.
