Description
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) provides oversight of all the agency’s financial operations and acts as the financial steward of the organization. This role is critical in helping fulfill Journey Found’s mission of providing the best person-centered services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and to secure its sustainability in service to this mission. The CFO will achieve the organization’s goals and objectives by spearheading all financial initiatives and activities, thereby ensuring the agency's ability to maintain services designed to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities. The CFO reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and has direct supervisory responsibilities for a team of Finance Coordinators. This leader has frequent contact with both internal and external stakeholders, including staff, people supported, their families, the public, other human service organizations, government funding and regulatory agencies, and the Board of Directors. This position is based at Journey Found’s Manchester, CT office and is expected to be on-site for a majority of the work week, with the flexibility to work remotely as their schedule and commitments permit.

Five or more years of financial, managerial, and administrative responsibilities in a non-profit organization or an equivalent combination of training and experience. At least three years of experience working with the CT Department of Developmental Services (DDS) and a deep understanding of its financial practices. An established track record of fostering a successful and effective team-based work culture. A minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, public administrations, or a related field is required. An advanced degree in any of these fields or an MBA/CPA is an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities:
Management and Administration: Plans, achieves, and maintains financial objectives of the agency by developing and maintaining the agency’s budget, authorizing expenditures according to policy, auditing expenditures, analyzing variances, initiating corrective actions, and anticipating short- and long-term issues. Maintains agency operations by guiding the formulation of financial policies and procedures, enforcing adherence to agency policies and procedures, and insuring compliance with state and federal requirements. Ensures agency compliance with state and federal requirements by studying existing legislation and anticipating future trends affecting financial activities. Manages and monitors all agency grants and contracts, maintains reporting, expenditure, and other related compliance issues. Prepares annual budgets for the agency and its programs, prepares budget revisions as necessary, and creates individual budgets for people served as required by funding sources. Performs accounting procedures and transactions related to the G/L, workpapers, and ledgers. Participates in development functions by preparing budgets for proposals, and monitoring all financial aspects of fundraising activities, and assisting in setting targets for the development team. Keeps the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors informed by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends, preparing and submitting reports, answering questions, and responding to requests. Assists in the procurement of agency insurances and employee benefits. Oversees agency purchasing, accounts payable/receivable ensuring adherence to state of CT cost standards. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
Organizational Engagement: Maintains and develops staff through supervision, hiring, transferring, promoting, demoting, disciplining, counseling, coaching, appraising job results, termination, as well as providing educational and experiential growth opportunities. Promotes a positive agency image and assists in marketing the agency’s services by interacting with and cooperating with executives and staff members of funding and regulatory agencies and related service agencies. Contributes to team effort by assuming other responsibilities as needed and as assigned by the Chief Executive Officer. Takes the initiative to teach basic financial practices and principles to non-financial managers.
Qualifications
Key Competencies:Experience working with Accounting and Payroll Software (Sage Intacct and Paycom preferred). Excellent proficiency in MS365 and particularly with Excel. Supervisory experience. Non-Profit fiscal management experience. Risk Management knowledge and experience. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Compensation and Benefits: The starting annual salary range for this position is $100,000 to $110,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
