As a Senior Data Center Engineer, you will play a critical role in the deployment and management of network, storage, and server infrastructure across your assigned region. You will be responsible for ensuring the seamless installation and integration of these systems, while also overseeing the monitoring and maintenance of critical infrastructure in our leased data centers, in close collaboration with the landlords' engineering teams. This role demands a deep expertise in structured cabling, network cabling characterization, and advanced Linux troubleshooting, including resolving issues related to Linux Kickstart. Your technical proficiency and collaborative approach will be essential to maintaining the operational integrity and performance of our data center environments.

This role will be based in Manassas, VA.

This role, due to the business needs of the team, requires employees to be physically present in the specified office on a full-time basis. This helps to ensure you are best equipped to be successful and have the experience you need to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.

Responsibilities:

• Racking, cabling, and initial configuration of all console switches and network devices.

• Conduct fiber characterization for new network deployments to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

• Proficient in interpreting network diagrams to accurately execute network cabling installations.

• Conduct quality control assessments following third-party vendor installations, ensuring all top-of-rack network switches and server cabinet deployments meet established standards.

Execution of LinkedIn’s build readiness tool that ensures server nodes are ready for the autobuild linux kickstart process.

• Execution of the Linux Kickstart process on all new server nodes.

• Perform remediation of server nodes that fail to deploy correctly, ensuring full functionality and compliance with deployment standards.

• Conduct daily reviews of DCIM alerts to identify power or environmental issues, taking prompt action on any critical or warning incidents and escalating to the regional Site Supervisor as needed.

• Act as a liaison between internal operations and the landlord's engineering team, ensuring effective communication regarding critical infrastructure status, maintenance schedules, and incident management.

• Review and analyze performance metrics provided by the landlord’s engineering team to ensure adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and operational standards.

• Collaborate on emergency preparedness planning, including regular testing of response plans and participation in incident response drills.

• Engage in capacity planning and forecasting with the landlord’s engineering team to ensure infrastructure scalability in line with business growth.

• Maintain up-to-date documentation of critical infrastructure and facilitate knowledge transfer between the landlord's engineering team and internal staff.

• Assist with any hardware installations that do not fall within the scope of work for quarterly organic growth.

• Ensure LinkedIn’s data center house rules are being followed and immediately report any concerns to leadership.

• Collaborate with LinkedIn’s infrastructure development team to evolve existing tools and develop new tools/automation to make our data centers more effective and efficient.

• Leverage our internal DCIM tool and external provider portals to validate load and environmental data across all data center suites.

• Safely and quickly respond to any critical infrastructure concerns and ensure effective communication between the landlord, LinkedIn’s NOC, and LinkedIn’s Data Center Engineering leadership team.

Basic Qualifications:

• 3+ years in a Data Center Operations role

• 3+ years of Linux troubleshooting experience

• 3+ years of server hardware troubleshooting experience

• 3+ years of physical layer network troubleshooting experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with network troubleshooting

• Experience with project management including organizational, verbal, written, and analytical skills

• Experience in large organization and interdependent team dynamics

• Experience scripting in BASH and/or Python

The pay range for this role is $103,000 to $170,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
