Job Overview
This position is responsible for educating people for the purpose of promoting, maintaining, and improving individual, family, and community health. Strengthens community ties, recruits volunteers, establishes a positive public image, conducts outreach, and promotes services and public involvement.
Location: Melrose/Wakefield Hospital - 293 Commercial Street - Malden, MA
Hours: Per Diem - 6 /10 hours per month
Minimum Qualifications
Two (2) years of College Coursework OR Associate’s Degree.
One (1) year of related experience.
Must be certified as a Childbirth Educator
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
Works with hospital staff, physicians and community members to plan programs to meet assessed needs.
Develops and uses appropriate educational strategies and methods to facilitate the development of programs.
Assesses the social and cultural competence of the community and develops culturally diversified health programs.
Using general principles of learning and adult education, conducts effective education and informational presentations.
Establishes a healthy learning environment utilizing evidence-based health education concepts.
Utilizes a variety of types and sources of data when gathering health care information about the community.
Plans, organizes, and coordinates special events such as health fairs, screenings, etc.
Maintains competence in knowledge about community, specific current health issues and health and social services.
Develops effective written health education materials.
