Job Description

Area Coordinator

Core Work – Principal Function of Role

The Operations Area Supervisor primarily functions to provide primary leadership and support for assigned production units by coordinating resources, communicating instruction, and leveraging operational experience to support achievement of production targets, policy and regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in the units.

Accountabilities – Provide leadership to:

  • Coordinate plant maintenance and activities, resources, and providing utilities across the plant site west and south.

  • Guide and support operations personnel to operate assigned production units as designed

  • Support the continuous improvement and upkeep of assigned production units and the entire operating Area

  • Foster strong cooperation within and between operations and other support workgroups

Key Activities and Responsibilities

  • Set priorities and coordinate the timing and execution of daily and long-term maintenance work

  • Attend maintenance planning/scheduling meetings and review and approve unscheduled plant maintenance work

  • Plan and ensure raw materials deliveries and final product shipments

  • Proactively address manpower needs by managing internal moves, cross-training, and new operator placement

  • Communicate instructions to operations personnel to achieve specific objectives in production units (including equipment prep and LOTO for upcoming maintenance work, approved non-routine operation, monthly tasks, etc.)

  • Provide support for resolving process upsets after basic troubleshooting steps have been verified by Shift Supervisor

  • Provide support to operations personnel to ensure site and corporate HS&E policy and regulatory compliance

  • Produce and review Area Operating Procedures

  • Help generate and implement effective corrective actions from incidents and ensure timely completion of actions

  • Participate on Continuous Improvement Teams and Capital Projects teams

  • Collaborate with other Area Supervisors to manage housekeeping programs for the Area

  • Serve as focal point regarding Area communications with other departments and operating Areas

Key Performance Indicators

  • Zero preventable incidents and injuries in assigned production units

  • Units achieve monthly production targets at designed raw material utilizations within set quality specifications

  • Zero non-conformances of HS&E, PSM, ISO, and other sitewide regulations and requirements

  • Coordinate plant maintenance and activities, resources, and maintain utility systems across the south and west plant.

  • Good communication and teamwork among Area operations and other workgroup

Essential Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal relationship skills

  • Strong problem solving, time management, and organizational skills

  • Operations experience in a manufacturing facility, preferably in the chemical industry

  • Shift Supervisor experience preferred

Critical Partnerships

  • Operations Engineer – Collaborate on resolution of process upsets, generation/implementation of process improvements (operator focus), and coordination of raw materials and shipment trailers

  • Shift Supervisor – Collaborate on implementation/execution of sitewide policies/initiatives and unit specific tasks, prioritization/methods of preparing assets for maintenance work, and resolving process upsets in a timely manner

  • OMC/maintenance – Collaborate to achieve targets on PM compliance, schedule attainment, and break-ins, and ensure efficiency in the Work Order system (SAP)

  • Traffic/Logistics – Collaborate to ensure production and business needs are met in a timely manner
