The Sr. Manager - Enterprise Monitoring is responsible for designing and supporting the implementation, configuration and ongoing monitoring objectives for monitoring tools and processes encompassing the Infrastructure, Application and User perspectives. Additionally, will address the needs of proactive monitoring and incident avoidance, as well as trending, predictive and contractually required SLAs/KPIs. Will work closely with Infrastructure Services, Application Development, Helpdesk and Desktop Services to implement and adhere to ITIL/DevOps best practices, ensuring the highest quality system experiences possible for internal and external customers. This position is a key resource that focuses on designing and operating monitoring solutions for a large computing infrastructure including on-prem data centers and cloud.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement robust and scalable monitoring systems to ensure the performance, availability, and reliability of IT infrastructure and applications in a hybrid on-prem and cloud environment

  • Guide the selection, configuration, and management of monitoring tools and technologies such as SolarWinds, Dynatrace, Azure Monitor, Splunk, Grafana, ELK

  • Proactively monitor and troubleshoot complex system, application or process problems

  • Play a key role in incident management, responding to alerts and resolving issues in a timely manner. Investigate and troubleshoot complex system or network problems, identify root causes, and implement appropriate solutions or workarounds

  • Lead the monitoring team by providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including network engineers, site reliability engineers, developers, and information security professionals

  • Understand emerging technologies like AI and latest tooling improvement, and best practices in monitoring and infrastructure management

Conditions:

This position will support Optum Serve’s performance of a United States (U.S.) Government contract and will require the successful applicant to access and/or process Non-Critical Sensitive information (Personally Identifiable Information [PII]/Protected Health Information [PHI]) from or contained in a U.S. Government IT system.

To fulfill the data and IT system access requirements for this position, the successful applicant will be required to successfully complete a Trustworthy Determination, which will require the successful applicant to: 1) be a U.S. citizen 2) pass a National Agency Check with law enforcement in order to obtain the access privileges required by the position and 3) pass a Credit Check in order to obtain the access privileges required by the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, MIS, Information Technology, Computer Engineering or other related fields

  • 5+ years of experience in network monitoring, system administration, or related roles

  • 5+ years of experience in designing, implementing, and managing monitoring systems

  • 5+ years of experience with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Dynatrace, Azure Monitor, Splunk, Grafana and others

  • 5+ years of ITIL or other ITSM related framework or discipline experience

  • Experience leading Monitoring & Observability teams in a complex on prem and multi-cloud environments

  • Familiarity with PowerShell, Python, Bash and other scripting languages

  • An understanding of end-to-end system dependencies (Infrastructure, System, Data, Telecom, Desktop, Mobile) to the resulting contract outcomes

  • Solid understanding of business operations and their related dependencies on IT systems for executing our contracts successfully

  • Solid grasp of the technical fundamentals of software development and be able to work within complicated IT systems to plan projects

  • Proven to be comfortable making timely suggestions in times of crisis management and escalating alerts appropriately across the organization to sustain minimal impact to customers

  • Proven solid interpersonal skills including the ability to present, persuade and provide professional presentation materials to both large and small groups

  • Proven communications and collaboration skills and a passion to lead and mentor teams

  • Proven analytical and troubleshooting skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Equivalent combination of education, experience and/or applicable military experience will be considered

  • ITIL or other ITSM framework certification

  • Experience with monitoring, instrumenting IT Systems, IT event management, alerting, and Synthetic Scripting practices

  • Experience creating systems/performance dashboards

  • DOD/VA/Military Experience

  • DOD/VA/Military Clearances

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable.
