Job Summary

In this role, you’ll spearhead state regulatory affairs and drive groundbreaking initiatives that propel our company’s strategy and business goals forward. In this dynamic role, you’ll oversee critical regulatory projects, ensure compliance with rate regulations, and foster impactful relationships with regulatory staff and key stakeholders. You’ll also serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, guiding them on cutting-edge regulatory policies and processes.

What you will do

  • Monitors and maintains activities with a high level of understanding and knowledge of regulatory affairs across all relevant jurisdictions, interpreting technical regulatory information and leading the development of regulatory filings and plans to implement business priorities.

  • Develops company positions and responses to emerging regulatory issues and provides recommendations on courses of action to leadership and other business units, then implements regulatory policies and strategies that align with strategic business goals.

  • Advocates and implements policies and proposals that advance corporate strategic goals in the best interest of customers and the company.

  • Consults on regulatory policies, initiatives, and opportunities, providing guidance internally to key leadership and business unit stakeholders.

  • Manages regulatory filings, including the preparation of applications, written testimony, and other materials, and ensures clear and compelling messages aligned with the corporate strategy across regulatory dockets.

  • Develops, maintains, and leads key internal and external regulatory relationships, including with staff of relevant commissions and boards and interveners.

  • Serves as a primary point of contact with staff of relevant commissions and boards and represents the company in the various regulatory forums, including providing expert witness testimony.

  • Leads cross-functional teams to accomplish highly complex projects related to corporate strategic initiatives and ensures integration on all key issues – within and across jurisdictions – that have regulatory impacts.

  • Leads continuous improvement of regulatory programs and initiatives by identifying opportunities for transformation and efficiencies; works with managers in key operational areas to design and implement regulatory process improvement programs and initiatives.

  • Engage in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s Values and help deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Economics, business administration, public policy, engineering, or related field preferred.

Required Experience

  • 8 years of professional experience in utility regulation, pricing, marketing, economics, public policy, or related field.

  • 3 years supervisory experience or equivalent.

Preferred Experience

  • Prior experience in a regulatory affairs role.

  • Demonstrated facilitation skills, which include facilitation of issue across business units, facilitation of issues within a single business and facilitation of meetings.

  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).

  • Ability to think critically, overcome conventional thinking, and develop innovative solutions.

  • Ability to travel throughout company territory for customer meetings/business; overnight stay may be necessary.

  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
