JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: This is an exciting opportunity to join the College of Letters and Science Animal Program. In this position you will support behavioral research in the departments of Integrative Biology and Psychology through research animal care and husbandry related lab assistance. You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of species including birds, fish and rodents housed in three campus animal facilities. Under the general supervision of the Animal Care Supervisor, this position will provide animal husbandry, ensure compliance with animal care regulations and perform other duties as assigned. Daily care provided includes feeding, watering, monitoring health, cleaning caging/facilities, facility maintenance and maintaining records. In this position you will interact with investigators, lab staff and veterinary staff in person and through phone/email as needed. Responsibilities: Collects samples and administers medication and treatments, in addition to feeding and maintenance responsibilities, to ensure compliance with animal care regulations and support research and instruction. 5% Collects samples from animals and administers medications, injections, and treatments according to established protocols and procedures to be used for diagnostic tests and research 25% Inventories, cleans, and maintains organization of animal holding spaces and supplies 15% Prepares food and formulas and feeds animals according to established schedules and specifications 5% Inspects and reports equipment problems to ensure optimal and safe operation 10% Maintains organization of and updates records related to research procedures 40% Observes animal behavior, performs basic animal care, and reports concerns to the appropriate entities to contribute to the health and well-being of animals and promote research Institutional Statement on Diversity: Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison.
