SAMARITAN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL Patient Accounts Assistant in MACON, Missouri

Position summary: Responsible for providing effective customer service when utilizing the hospital Operator system and during face-to-face interactions with patients, family members, and hospital personnel. Will also collect accurate patient information, complete patient registrations in a timely manner and assist in posting insurance payments.

  • Customer service and hospital admissions operations experience preferred

Position responsibilities:

  • Greet all patients with courtesy and register patients at semi private admitting desk with entering complete and accurate information on the admission record
  • Answer Operator phones and direct calls to the appropriate offices
  • Collect and post payments with printing receipts and apply payments to the correct accounts for all money received
  • Balance cash drawer, evening/weekend cash drawer, petty cash, and prepare deposits, as needed
  • Answer patient questions regarding bills and direct them to appropriate staff
  • Assist Receptionist in billing doctors and other businesses for central supplies, pharmacy, and medical record fees
  • Work holiday rotation and cover evening/weekend as needed
  • Record and deposit patient valuables properly as needed
  • Scan and Index all payments and correspondence received
  • Check insurance eligibility on each patient registration and assist with eligibility reports and work queues
  • Completely and accurately register outpatient and inpatients, obtaining copies of insurance cards and necessary signatures on medical and financial documents
  • Adding and editing doctors in the computer system
  • Be familiar with patient financial assistance, payment plan guidelines, and help educate and assist patients with financial responsibilities
  • Obtain copies of insurance cards, physician orders and inform the patient/guardian of their financial responsibility if applicable
  • Assist Admitting Specialist in posting all insurance payments and collection agencies to correct accounts
  • Assist with Medicare Bad Debt report
  • Assist with daily mail duties for received and outgoing mail for Samaritan
  • Prepare morning census and complete necessary paperwork on weekends
  • Cover Receptionist, Registration, and ER Registration as needed
  • Secure and lock hospital doors after day and weekend shifts
  • Assist with orientation process for new employees
  • Complete E-Learning and job competencies as required
  • Perform other duties as directed by the director
