Job Description:

APPOINTMENT: May 15, 2024

RESPONSIBILITIES: Western Illinois University seeks an engaged, dynamic and experienced Equal Opportunity and Access Officer to assist in the management and administration of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access. The Equal Opportunity Officer reports directly to the Director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access, who reports to the Executive Director of Human Resources.

The Officer assists the Director in the management and administration of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access in order to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the University\'s Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity, and ADA compliance programs. This includes applicable federal, state, and University guidelines for civil rights compliance, including Executive Order 11246; Titles VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and 1990; Title IX of the 1972 Higher Education Amendments; Section 503 and 504 of Rehabilitations Acts of 1975 and 1967 respectively; the Americans with Disabilities Act as amended; and the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993.

The Officer will assist with performing discrimination complaint investigations and Title IX investigations. They will conduct training and outreach and serve on various University and community committees. The Officer will assist with special projects and research, and review and prepare data for periodic statistical or narrative reports.

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master\'s degree and progressive experience in a related field is required (i.e. higher education, college student personnel, social work, counseling, or areas related to well-being, diversity and inclusion, etc.)
  • Knowledge of Affirmative Action, Title IX, and ADA laws and regulations.
  • Ability to complete statistical analysis and experience with database programs, word processing and networks.
  • Analytical writing skills.
  • Understanding of issues related to sexual assault, domestic violence, harassment, and stalking.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally diverse environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work discreetly with confidential and sensitive information.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to build rapport, work collaboratively with, and navigate complex issues across populations on and off campus, including students, faculty, and staff.
  • Experience with case-management or similar administrative processes.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience working in a college or university setting.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regio ally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.
