Pike Corporation Engineering Designer 4- Protection and Control in Lutz, Florida

Position Overview:Provide substation protection and control design, technical support, and coordination to a transmission substation engineering and design team for the purpose of delivering safe, cost-effective, and quality design and drafting projects. Provide technical competency on complex problems for projects including a wide range of utility substation projects, battery energy storage systems, and solar collector substations. The incumbent is expected to lead discipline work for projects and manage project schedules and budgets. The incumbent will also support proposal development and project cost estimating.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Advanced understanding of protection and control designs as they apply to utility substations and transmission line equipment

  • Create/Improve quality control measures to ensure design and drafting meet standards

  • Create substation P&C design drawings from client standards and industry best practices for P&C designs of utility stations through 500kV, including one lines, three lines, AC/DC schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, settings, relays, and SCADA

  • Ability to interpret written specifications and implement them in engineering drawings.

  • Oversee the work of junior staff and mentor designers/drafters

  • Create/Improve quality control measures to ensure design and drafting meet standards

  • Experience checking designs for accuracy, appearance, and adherence to customer standards

  • Collaborate, communicate, and liaise effectively with other design disciplines, colleagues, construction contractors, consultants, materials suppliers, and clients

  • Visit sites, advise on engineering issues. Modify the design to resolve issues during construction

  • Provide general project management capabilities to coordinate staff, assign tasks, and accomplish projects in an efficient manner

  • Manage budgets and project schedules

    Requirements

  • 8+ Year(s) experience in CAD Design

  • Proven Autocad and/or Microstation skills

    Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in the utility industry

  • Preferred coursework and/or degree in utility CAD Design
