Heavy Equipment Operator - Lufkin, Texas (Job Number: 939888)

Primary Objective(s) of the Position:

  • Operate Equipment: Skillfully operate equipment specific to utility scale solar projects as directed.

  • Safety First: Strictly adhere to all PCL safety policies and procedures.

  • Ensure Safety: Always maintain a safe working environment.

Key Result Areas (Essential Functions):

  • Operate the following equipment based on project requirements, always ensuring safe operation:

  • Light and heavy excavator

  • Follow all prescribed safety regulations without exception.

  • Maintain housekeeping in a clear and orderly fashion in the assigned area to prevent accidents.

  • Perform routine maintenance, including lubricating, fueling, and cleaning, with a focus on safety.

  • Observe equipment operation closely to detect and address any machine malfunctions promptly.

  • Follow work plans and pre-task cards, ensuring all safety protocols are observed.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, always prioritizing safety.

  • All tasks will be performed within a utility scale solar project.

  • Detail-oriented, especially regarding safety procedures.

  • The operator must have extensive experience working in confined spaces around completed structures and finishes along with digging around non-energized electrical cables without causing damage.

  • Experience with Underground Cables: Demonstrated ability to safely dig around underground cables, ensuring no damage to the cables or surrounding infrastructure. This includes:

  • Identifying and marking the location of underground cables before excavation.

  • Using appropriate digging techniques to avoid damaging cables.

  • Coordinating with utility companies to ensure accurate information about cable locations.

  • Implementing protective measures to safeguard cables during excavation.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and load charts.

  • Knowledge of equipment and their safe uses.

  • Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication).

  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a strong focus on safety.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Equipment certifications as required, with a focus on safety training.

  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience, with a proven safety record.

  • Five (5) or more years of underground utility and civil construction as an Excavator Operator.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license of the proper class and necessary endorsements as required by law, with a clean safety record.
