Job Overview
The Paramedic is an allied health professional whose primary focus is to provide advanced emergency medical care for critical and emergent patients. This position possesses the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight. Conducts detailed assessments and utilize available diagnostics to collaborate with the medical control physician to determine appropriate treatments and intermediate care management strategy. Responds to patient’s care needs, request appropriate referrals, and provide education to patients and their families regarding their medical conditions. Conducts patient care visits with real-time communication with one of our board-certified emergency physicians or the patient’s attending physician. Works cooperatively within the department and other services to create a system of quality health care.
Location: Lowell General Hospital - 295 Varnum Avenue - Lowell, MA
Hours: 40 hours varied - Days, Evenings, Nights, Weekends
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of accredited Paramedic program.
National Registered Paramedic.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
State issued driver’s license.
Two (2) years of relevant experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
Follows clinical protocols, plans and orders correctly.
Maintains effective scene management/leadership; follows ICS.
Draws labs on patients as ordered.
Maintains supplies including stocking assigned areas with supplies and linen, stocks specialty trays as used, empty hampers, cleans beds between patients, washes stretchers and other areas during downtime.
Provides transportation of patients using appropriate mode: Ambulatory; Wheelchair; Stretcher; Ambulance; Scoop Stretcher; Ambulance Stretcher; or Stair-Chair.
Performs all clerical duties involved with ordering labs, x-ray’s, EKG’s and procedures.
Assists patients when brought into room by undressing, connecting monitor, BP and O2 Sat as directed.
Performs: 12 Lead EKG; Simple dressings, wound care; Ace Wraps; Assists with AM care and ADL when patients are held in the Emergency Department.

Performs analysis and interpretation of cardiac rhythms - reports any abnormalities to the Emergency Department Medical Staff.
Inserts Peripheral Intravenous Lines and External Jugular Intravenous Lines.
Under the direction of the Emergency Department MD, performs the following: Intubation; Insertion of I/O; Cardioversion; External Pacing; Administration of Code Blue/Emergency Medications that are within the scope of Paramedic via Intramuscular, Intravenous, Subcutenously, Intranasal, Via ETT.
