We are looking for a Rail Infrastructure Quality Engineer Intern. This position will be based at our Louisville area branch located in Kentucky.

During your summer journey with us, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the Quality Department where you will learn factory processes and manufacturing techniques that bring designs to reality. You will experience the value of working in a cross functional team environment to solve problems and drive continual improvement with the support and supervision of our Quality Team.

A little bit about us:

Siemens Mobility provides efficient and coordinated transportation of people and goods by rail - including rolling stock, rail automation, rail electrification, and service. We craft and manufacture across the entire spectrum of rolling stock, including commuter and regional passenger trains, light rail and streetcars, metros, locomotives, passenger coaches, and high-speed trainsets. Cities and Railroads also rely on us to provide traction-power substations and electricity transmission, as well as signaling and control technology for freight and passenger rail and transit systems.

How does quality plays into the big picture?

The Quality team ensures the high-quality standards are met through every step of the process to design, build, and deliver products for Automated Train Control. Our team validates designs through rigorous design reviews, audits suppliers, conducts inspections in the factories, and facilities problem solving with a cross functional team.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • This position will work with Quality Specialists in the areas of factory product quality and process quality at our location in Louisville, KY.

  • Assist in developing product inspections for incoming parts and system assemblies

  • Perform Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) studies with a team to determine areas of improvement in manufacturing processes

  • Support problem solving investigations for quality issues

  • Conduct process audits in factory or functional areas, Quality, Procurement, Engineering

  • Conduct Gage R&R studies on existing tools and make recommendations based on those findings.

  • Assist in dimensional layouts to include form, fit, and function testing of components.

  • Conduct statistical analysis of nonconforming process and develop working solutions to minimize their impacts.

  • Work with all functional areas within the organization to understand business processes and how they affect the quality of manufactured products.

  • Incorporate academic knowledge into solutions to real world problems.

Critical Capabilities :

  • Ability to work independently as needed

  • Understanding of basic manufacturing practices

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be pursuing a bachelor’s or advanced degree in Industrial, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university

  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required

  • Must reside or go to school near internship location in Louisville, KY.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0

  • Previous internship experience or relevant school projects

  • Strong communication skills - verbal and written

  • Ability to work on a team

  • Interest in learning about the rail industry - project management, customer service operations, manufacturing, etc.

The hourly pay range for this position is $22 - $26 per hour, based off your projected graduation year. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location. Additionally, interns for Siemens are eligible to contribute into our 401K program.
