DescriptionEsssential Functions:Performs highly skilled mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of automotive machineryExamples of DutiesExamples of Work:UNDER GENERAL DIRECTIONOverhauls motors on trucks, cars, garbage packers, and other large equipmentSecures parts for vehiclesMakes service calls in the fieldDiagnoses defects in automotive equipmentCorrects break downs or problems concerning automotive equipmentCorrects defective automotive equipmentPerforms related workMinimum RequirementsPhysical Requirement & Working Conditions:Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related workSpends prolonged periods of time sitting, standing, walking, carrying, stooping and climbingLifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds in a team settingSufficient vision and hearing are needed to detect and correct mechanical problemsMinimum Requirements:Completion of a recognized apprenticeship programMechanicTwo years of experience in mechanical work in a commercial garageOther Minimums:Must submit to and pass pre-employment and random alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the Department of TransportationMust wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHAMust be on 24 hour callMust possess and maintain a valid driver's licenseEquivalency:Additional experience may be substituted for the training requirementSpecial Requirements:Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsement or obtain within six months of employmentSupplemental InformationPay Progression:Step 1: $23.41/hour - 0-3 MonthsStep 2: $24.51/hour - 3-6 MonthsStep 3: $25.70/hour - 6+ MonthsClass A CDL with Tanker Endorsement: $1.15 per hour
