About the RoleSierra Space is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Flight Sciences Engineering Intern to join our innovative team. As an intern, you will work closely with experienced engineers to support various aspects of flight sciences, including aerodynamics, loads and dynamics, integrated thermal analysis, vehicle performance, stability and control, and integrated testing for of aerospace vehicles. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute to pioneering projects in the space

Our Interns have the unique experience of getting both mentoring and coaching while working side by side with recognized industry experts on real-world assignments directly related to their field of study. Bring your knowledge and desire to learn, and we will provide the experience. Summer internships are typically 10-12 weeks starting in late May/early June and work an average of 40 hours a week. Depending on satisfactory completion of certain criteria during your internship, you may be considered for a full-time position upon graduation.

As an intern, you'll ask questions, get involved, bring your ideas, be part of an actual project team, attend planning meetings, complete assignments as tasked by your team, absorb and learn from your team and apply that learning to projects assigned. You'll have the opportunity to learn fundamental business processes and procedures, build your technical foundation through practice and mentorship, and participate in an in-depth program built by our University Recruiting team, that includes cross-functional workshops and meeting with leadership to gain understanding of the business and Sierra Space culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in performing aerodynamic, thermal, performance and dynamic load analysis for aerospace vehicles

Develop and validate flight performance models, thermal models, and finite element models (FEM)

Support dynamic simulations and thermal component environment

Contribute to the generation and documentation of aerodynamic datasets, thermal requirements, and load conditions

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate aerodynamic, thermal, and performance analysis into overall vehicle design

Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate analysis results and findings

Participate in integrated vehicle testing activities, including data collection, reduction, and analysis

Contribute to the testing and validation activities to correlate analytical models with experimental data

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university

Must have at least one academic term remaining after the completion of the internship

Students must be a Sophomore, Juni r or Senior undergraduate student or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. Program

Strong skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio

Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment

Strong organization skills and work ethic; detail oriented
