Netflix Product Manager - Machine Learning Platform in Los Gatos, California

This role can be based in our Los Gatos office or can be remotely-based in the US as long as you’re comfortable working Pacific Standard Time hours. Some travel to our offices may be required if remote-based.

With more than 230 million members in over 190 countries, Netflix continues to shape the future of entertainment around the world. Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence is powering innovation in all areas of the business. From helping us buy and create great content, helping members choose the right title for them through personalization, to optimizing our payment processing and other revenue-focused initiatives.

The Machine Learning Platform (MLP) provides the foundation for all of this innovation. It offers ML/AI practitioners across Netflix the means to achieve the highest possible impact with their work by making it easy to develop, deploy and improve their machine-learning models.

We are creating a new Product Management role to increase the leverage of our Machine Learning Platform. In this role, you will:

  • Define the strategic vision for MLP, objectives, key results and success metrics in partnership with Engineering and in alignment with broader business objectives.

  • Collect feedback and understand user needs from ML/AI practitioners and application engineers across Netflix, deriving product requirements and sizing their importance to then prioritize areas of investment.

  • Ensure product success throughout the entire lifecycle of strategically important initiatives, from ideation to full launch and ongoing support.

  • Socialize strategic plans, roadmaps, and ongoing progress to stakeholders and executives in product review forums, quarterly OKR check-ins, etc.

  • Create programs around user education and support for users of the ML Platform.

  • Follow and assess external industry trends and innovations.

What We Offer:

  • The opportunity to have impact. The Netflix product management model is different from most technology companies. Our key product management leaders - including this position - work with multiple sprint teams but do not have direct reports. Consequently, we’re looking for experienced product leaders who are strategic and also like rolling up their sleeves.

  • Responsibility. Netflix offers true transparency and autonomy. Our culture is unique and is key to how we innovate.

  • Learning. You will be creating product experiences that have never been done before. You will have the opportunity to work with stunning colleagues who value collaboration and from whom you can learn.

  • A work environment where you can grow your career. This is our first Product Management hire to support our ML Platform, giving you ample opportunity to develop over time.

Who Will Be Successful In This Role?

  • You combine a technical background in engineering and/or machine learning with a strong product sense and excellent communication skills to define, explain and execute your vision.

  • You have the demonstrated ability to create and execute a vision for a (centralized) machine learning infrastructure team that supports machine learning practitioners and data scientists across a variety of use cases.

  • You naturally seek to validate your hypotheses with data and have experience setting quantifiable goals to measure progress.

  • You are able to work with world-class engineers, have the statistical acumen to collaborate with top-notch data scientists, the communication skills to translate the implications of that work to less technical partners, and the business sense to drive product.

  • You build partnerships with other product managers across the organization, leveraging your platform.

Skills And Qualifications

  • Extensive experience working and innovating on a centralized Machine Learning platform supporting multiple applications.

  • A high degree of technical understanding to be able to closely collaborate with engineers and ML practitioners and being additive in strategic discussions about MLP’s future product offering.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience working effectively with engineers, data scientists, ML practitioners, other Product Managers, etc.

  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to present technical content to non-technical audiences. Ability to partner with different functions to ensure that your solutions drive real business impact.

  • Strategic thinking and ability to incorporate larger business context into algorithm and product development.
