Netflix Engineering Manager - Production Finance Engineering in Los Gatos, California

Netflix is the world's leading internet entertainment service with over 250 million members in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, documentaries and feature films across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can watch as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, on any internet-connected screen. Members can play, pause and resume watching, all without commercials or commitments.

Production Finance Engineering is responsible for building tools and technologies that enables Netflix to plan and spend our members' money effectively across hundreds of titles that are produced and launched every year. It all starts with creating a budget on how we want to spend the money on a title. From that point onwards, we track every dollar spent on the title by ingesting huge volumes of production accounting data and helping keep the production cost on track. The need to improve production economics is at the core of making Netflix a differentiator amongst its competitors and the work we do as part of this team is critical in making that happen.

We're looking for an Engineering Manager who can create a strong vision and viable roadmap as well as build and lead a team of world class software engineers. In this role you will optimize workflows across various aspects of Production Finance. You will help the team overcome technical challenges that come with the ever increasing volume and complexity of our productions -- all while maintaining the accuracy and timeliness of our financial data.

As an Engineering Manager you will:

  • Lead a full stack team of UI, backend and full stack engineers with varying levels of industry experience.

  • Drive success with minimal process and a heavy emphasis on individual responsibility.

  • Support your team by helping them understand priorities and enabling them to ignore distractions and non-productive influences.

  • Work closely with various cross functional partners like product, design, data science and stakeholders in being a sounding board.

  • Be an exemplar of the Netflix culture (https://jobs.netflix.com/culture)

About You:

  • Domain Experience. You have built financial applications and understand the building blocks and foundations required to build a complex financial solution.

  • Engineering excellence. You have experience leading in a variety of contexts, during which you’ve built scalable, robust, and fault-tolerant systems. You have a solid knowledge of the whole web stack: front-end, back-end, databases, cloud applications, integrations.

  • Mentorship / Guidance: You have a proven track record of leading a large team of software engineers with varying levels of experience from interns and new college grads to seasoned engineers. You know that the most important part of your job is setting the team up for success. Through mentoring, teaching, and reviewing, you help other engineers make sound architectural decisions, improve their code quality, and get out of their comfort zone.

  • Execution: You care tremendously about execution and feature velocity. You hold yourself personally accountable, jumping in and taking ownership of problems that might not even be in your team's scope.

  • Hiring know-how. You're a thoughtful interviewer who constantly raises the bar for excellence. You believe that what seems amazing one day becomes the norm the next day, and that each new hire should significantly improve the team.

  • Are Detail Oriented. You value data accuracy and also understand the nuances of the projects in flight.

  • Project Management. You have led large cross functional initiatives by leveraging project management tools like Jira, Trello, etc. and can bring that experience to the team.

  • Hybrid Team Management. You have experience managing a hybrid team of in-person and remote engineers. Remote inclusivity is at the heart of communication and collaboration that you continue to practice and instill on the team.

Bonus Experience:

  • Experience working in any studios

  • Built studio productions facing tools

  • Experience with AWS
