Netflix is the world’s leading streaming entertainment provider with over 260 million paid subscribers in over 190 countries around the world. This success has depended on an industry-leading engineering organization building cloud-native services with exceptional resilience. Cloud Infrastructure Engineering delivers the platform underneath these services by following three tenets: simple, scalable, speed. We build simple, elegant solutions that are easy to adopt, highly available and efficient at internet scale, and support rapid development and exploration for engineers across the company.

Netflix has built a reputation as a world leader in Performance Engineering and the Netflix Performance Tech (https://netflixtechblog.com/tagged/performance) blog is one of the de-facto resources in the Industry. The Netflix performance engineering team is a small, very senior, and highly impactful team who have massive impact across Netflix engineering by being a trusted expert to countless teams getting involved in the hardest problems and most critical projects to ensure Netflix is always delivering the very best performance to its customers.

We are looking for an engineering leader passionate about performance optimization to lead this space at Netflix. You will own a long tenured and deeply experienced team of performance engineers. You have a background in the domain with strong technical expertise enabling you to grow and guide members of the team as well as choose the right problems for Netflix to invest in. You will influence some of our key bets enabling great engineering at every level of the stack to result in experiences that delight our customers at massive scale. The team connects the dots across products and features to allow us to ship end-to-end experiences, not org charts. You will enable the team to continue to develop industry-leading tooling and analytics in partnership with other industry leaders allowing us to stay at the very forefront of our domain.

What You Will Do

  • Own vision, strategy, and the end-to-end performance optimization of Netflix on the Cloud.

  • Effectively collaborate across several partner teams, focus on the user, prioritize ruthlessly, and get things done.

  • Support a team of world-class colleagues, keeping them challenged and growing professionally.

  • Make data-driven decisions, make bets, learn from failures, be in situations without obvious right answers, and create an environment where rapid iteration is the top goal.

  • Develop groundbreaking tooling and analytics, cooperating with other industry leaders to continue to push what best-in-class performance optimization is.

  • Own Netflix’s relationship with key Vendor partners and push the boundaries of performance on multiple architectures.

Who We Are Looking For

  • A leader who has a strong and deep background in the performance domain with experience of internet scale platforms and their associated complexity.

  • Demonstrated experience growing and developing world-class engineers.

  • Someone who believes deeply in engineering excellence and deriving the very best out of our systems and people.

  • A proven track record of navigating an ambiguous space, solving hard problems with tricky technical or organizational constraints, and identifying the right ones to address.

  • An organized, informed, effective communicator and influencer using context, not control; outcome-focused and able to think from the first principles.

  • Experience building and leading software engineering teams with a focus on inclusion and diversity, ensuring that we can attract and retain the best talent from anywhere and that all voices are heard to inform our direction.
