Alternatives Risk Management

BlackRock manages over $300 billion in alternative assets. We are seeking individuals with strong analytical and communication skills that can solve challenging problems related to investing in private markets. This individual will work closely with private credit portfolio managers and senior risk managers on various market and portfolio analyses, employing superior influencing skills to help inform the investment process and improve portfolio design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily risk management and oversight of credit portfolios, including review of new deals going to investment committee, where material

  • Partner with investment teams and businesses to ensure that risks are fully understood, consistent with client objectives, and appropriately mitigated

  • Communicate with impact and provide constructive challenge to decision makers to influence portfolio construction and drive better investment decisions

  • Assess portfolios’ ability to withstand market and economic stress by conducting scenario analysis and stress tests

  • Drive continuous evolution in portfolio analytics and risk monitoring tools in partnership with team members across RQA, portfolio management, and financial engineering

  • Work collaboratively with peers across RQA and help mentor junior risk managers

Qualifications

  • A degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Advanced degree or certifications (e.g., MBA, CFA, etc.) preferred

  • 9+ years of previous work experience in the financial services industry (asset management, investment banking, consulting, etc.) required

  • Previous experience as a risk manager or investment analyst supporting corporate credit (C&I), private credit, or private equity portfolios is preferred

  • Strong written/oral communication and interpersonal skills with a track record of articulating independent thinking with conviction

  • Ability to anchor relationships with lead portfolio managers and build a network across BlackRock and externally

  • Highly organized, proactive, and exhibiting impeccable attention to detail

  • Ability to bring innovative ideas into the portfolio construction and risk management process

For California and New York City only the salary range for this position is $147,500 - $209,500. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.

Our hybrid work model

BlackRock’s hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration and apprenticeship that enriches the experience of our employees, while supporting flexibility for all. Employees are currently required to work at least 4 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 1 day a week. Some business groups may require more time in the office due to their roles and responsibilities.
